Who are some of your fav TV characters of all time? Say the character's name, what show, and say why.
1. Les Nessman - WKRP in Cincinnati (1978-1982) - Les is the station's newsman. But he is not that great of a news man. He thinks that reports on hog futures and the plight of the rutabaga are big hard hitting journalism. Only once did he not start his broad cast with the hog report and that was when Nixon resigned. He thinks he made the right call. He often will mispronounce names and words. Chi Chi Rodriguez was pronounced Chy (sounds like shy) Chy Rodroogweeze and Spiro Agnew as Spyro Agnew. Or Chihuahua as a Chee-hooah-hooah. He wants his office to have walls instead of being just a desk in the room with the other desks. So he put tape on the floor to indicate walls and a dotted line of tape for the door. He even pretends to open and close the door when he enters the are or leaves it. Mr. Carlson even indulges Les by pretending to knock on the door when he needs him. But you got to love the little guy. He is one of the best parts of the show.
2. "Sonny" James Crockett (Miami Vice 1984-1990)
The coolest cop on the mo'fo' block! Don Johnson in his finest and most memorable role is my total idol. Crockett was tough, but had alot of deep issues that slowly came to surface as the series went on. Always there for his colleagues whenever he could be and constantly plagued by the blurred line between reality and "cover". Drove a Ferrari Daytona Spyder, wore $500 suits and was every woman's fantasy man during the 1980's....beat that.
3.) Norm Peterson - Cheers
(http://img2.timeinc.net/ew/dynamic/imgs/060315/92428__norm_l.jpg)
In one of the best (if not THE best) character shows of all time, Norm was a standout on his own. The overweight, beer swilling wise cracker was the king of the one liners. He truly captured "that guy" in every bar who was the popular regular.
4. Arnold Judas Rimmer, Red Dwarf.

Ozzymandias speaks: Paladin - HAVE GUN WILL TRAVEL
(http://www.cfhf.net/lyrics/images/have-gunWork2.jpg)
Most Western characters in the 50s were "good ole boys" who quoted rustic relatives, never took money for good deeds and slept by the camp fire or they were lawmen. All wore white hats.
Paladin lived in a ritzy hotel in San Fransisco, quoted Shakespear and Socrates, spoke in several languages, attended operas, knew fine wine and food. But then again he asked for a $1000 fee for helping people. He would just as soon kill a bad guy than bring them to justice. Instead of a badge he carried business cards with a chess knight on them and the words "HAVE GUN WILL TRAVEL - WIRE PALADIN." He dressed in black.
He took the side of the Native Americans over the Cavalry (He was an ex-military guy) and once used a small cannon to blow a door open on a barn where a bad guy was hiding (this was used in a promo for the show).
Also Richard Boone was not a good looking hunk like the other Western stars at the time, but he was a great actor.
It was one of the few TV shows to have a radio debut after its TV debut.
Ozzymandias has spoken!!!
6. DETHKLOK!!!
7. Al Bundy
(http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c311/gkalmus1/AlBundy.jpg)
Great character portrayed by the always funny Ed O'Neil. A man completely downtrodden by his family, job and life in general. Had some awesome quotes over the years, here's some of my favourites;
"I'm the only guy in the world who has to wake up to have a nightmare."
"A man's home is his coffin."
"Why doesn't the world die?"
"Sure selling shoes is fun. But behind the glamour, it's like any other minimum wage slow death."
8. Angelique (Dark Shadows)
Angelique was a witch, and had no hesitation about using her black magic to get what she wanted. She was forever in love with Barnabas Collins, who she had turned into a vampire. Her affection for him was very deep, while at the same time she was very cold hearted towards anyone standing in her way. Her witchcraft often drove the show's plots forward into all sorts of interesting territory. The mix of deep emotion and equally deep cruelty made her a very complex and memorable character. My favorite on the show.
9.) Archie Bunker
(http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj173/aguirrefan/archie_bunker.jpg)
On the surface, a racist, bigoted jackass from New York. Over time, it's revealed how he deeply cares for his family, and ultimately, cares for some of his minority neighbors, including The Jeffersons, etc. Carol O Connor was great with the character.
10.) Ralph Kramden
(http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc11/rosebankmom/jgleason_l.jpg)
Guess I prefer some of the classics.
11. Samantha Stevens, Bewitched.

30.) Mr. Feeny
(http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c177/fuzzcorefuzzgroove/feeny.jpg)

No.30 - Reginald Perrin (Leonard Rossiter)
One of my favorites would have to be John Cleese as Basil Fawlty. That is a great series and is still funny all these years later.
I'd also say that the way that show is plotted is very similar to the way Curb Your Enthusiasm is plotted: several threads all weaving together into a disaster at the end.

83.) Stone Cold Steve Austin
(http://i598.photobucket.com/albums/tt69/Sinn_Bowdee/stone-cold-steve-austin.jpg)
I know most would disagree: "He's a wrestler, not a character." But, it's wrestling. It's not UFC or MMA. It's entertainment, with writers, "Sports-Entertainers" (not athletes, according to most), etc. Either way, Austin was a character that was charismatic, entertaining, a rebel, funny, and helped draw MILLIONS of dollars worth of ticket sales, merchandise, and pay per view buys for the WWF/WWE, which is what a successful character is supposed to do (Fonzie, Kermit, etc)
84. Homer Simpson From well, The Simpsons

Laugh if you will, but he's quite an endearing character, and he's even been featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated, quite a feat for a fictional puppet character.
