"Despiser" really is terrible -- I got rid of my copy of it never having been able to watch it all the way through -- It plays as if someone had a $20 budget, some friends, and access to computer graphics. In one scene, a "supercomputer" is very clearly an ordinary TV set. Now, all this would be okay if it were funny-horrible, but this one has almost no laughs to speak of, other than the very poor effects & props.

"Giant Gila Monster", on the other hand, is pretty great B-stuff! I own the Elvira special edition on VHS. Just a great time all around --

Here's one of those trailers that makes you not want to see the movie that it's advertising.
I'm working on an interview with the writer/director/producer of "Despiser" right now. We're mostly discussing what is probably his best-known film, Invader (http://www.badmovies.org/movies/invader/), but "Despiser" also came up. The budget for "Despiser" was just $35,000. That is a tiny amount of money to produce a film.
I actually have it on order from Amazon - if they would ever ship the darn DVD.
Actually, given the many horror films today that use effects like Despiser, it looks like that film may have gotten it right. It looks like a truly good-bad movie with awful effects. I might have to check that one out.

Well that budget expains the awful computer animation. Still torn to buy this for the enjoyment of a B movie or to ignore it as I wont be able to sit through it.

The trailer posted above is for "Terror Toons." For some reason I thought that the two movies were named the same thing when I first heard about "Terror Toons" as well. I still haven't watched "Terror Toons." There is a capsule review for "Evil Toons" here:

"Evil Toon" would have been a better title, considering that there is just one evil cartoon spirit, and it spends most of the movie disguised as the one girl...

It's on the first set, which also includes THE CHILDREN. That's one one where the school bus load of kiddies gets bombarded by some radioactive gas which naturally turns 'em into flesh-melting mutants. 'Been needing to see that one for a while.

Woe is to you if you have watched "Mandinga". It does have rather creative casting, using whites and Hispanics without benefit of any makeup as African slaves. The dubbing for the slaves is...well, insulting, with lots of "Yas'sir, Massa!" I wish I was kidding. The first half comes across like a variation on the SS camp soft-core films with slaves (both women and men) being tied up and raped to the SAME DAMN MUSIC over and over and over and over again and again and again.... Then someone decided to include a story to this mess. It could have worked, too, if there weren't holes in it as big as a 50-year veteran hooker's snatch. Utterly sad.
Still, far more watchable than "Executioner, Part 2". Grass dying naturally of old age is more watchable than that movie.
" In the tradition of 'E.T.' and 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind'."

Jack can answer this better than I can, but I believe it was shown on TMC's cult movie show TCM Underground (http://www.tcm.com/2008/underground/index.jsp) (don't know if it was uncut). I keep meaning to check out the show, but it airs in the wee hours on weekends. Some decent fare has shown up there, including a rare screening of FASTER p***yCAT and even SKIDOO (if I didn't dream that one).

The sad thing is that the actors had no idea what the monster looked like. They played it straight and thought they were just doing the average monster movie. Then they saw what they were fighting against when the film was released. Wow. And I'm sure they didn't even get a kiss after the screwing they got.

I love THE WHITE GORILLA - it's one of my favorites. The spectacle of Ray "Crash" Corrigan kidnapping himself in the white gorilla suit and interacting with actors filmed twenty years earlier raises this one above all other cheap jungle gorilla epics. I particularly like how the fate of most of the cast, including a chunky jungle boy, is explained with the throwaway line "Oh, all we found was a bunch of skeletons."
Even though I had a copy of it on one of those 50 movie packs I got the 'Special Edition' version with THE BRIDE AND THE BEAST (screenplay by Ed Wood, Jr.) last year. The commentary by Tom Weaver and gorilla suit expert Bob Burns is worth the price of admission.

WHITE PONGO (1945) is a similar movie featuring Corrigan and his white gorilla suit, but it's not nearly as much fun.

Oddly enough, this boring thing was released in 3D. It shows up on Mill Creek's Tales Of Terror 50-movie set, and it is either a bad transfer or it still has the 3D elements in some of the scenes. The print is so bad that even if it is the 3D version, using glasses would cause a headache as big as the movie itself does. But, yeah, it was pretty gory. Not surprisingly, there are a number of movies out there that were released as PG and GP that had a shocking amount of gore and violence in them. "Blood and Lace" is a prime example of this. Bloody, sleazy, sick and evil...and rated GP. I wish I could find it on DVD, but it just isn't out there.

This trailer's pretty bad because you really don't get much information about what the film is about.

The title is a little off . . . MEGA Shark vs. GIANT Octopus . . . I dunno . . . how about MEGA Shark vs. Octo-TITAN? That has a better ring to it!

Actually, that's one of the most interesting looking trailers I've seen in a while as far as new movies are concerned. I love the title. It's nice and to the point like "Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man" or "Godzilla vs. the Smog Monster." The only big gripe I have with it is the CGI. If they had used Harryhausen-style stop-motion or even rubber suits instead, I'd probably want to see this movie.

I never heard of this movie but came across the trailer while looking for something else. I actually like this trailer and think the movie looks like it would be about ten million times better than Star Wars, but I'm sure many of you will think it's absolutely dreadful, so enjoy.
