I rather enjoyed child's play but like most good films it suffered with sequels. Seed of Chucky and child's play 3 being the worst.
However I did enjoy Bride of Chucky, mainly down to the fact it was done as a comedy which was needed. The first film played off suspense and the kid. As the sequels could not do the same they ended up becoming rather poor films.
Is it just me who thought that Seed of Chucky was awful? While it contained a few laughs it was just not very enjoyable in comparason to Bride of Chucky which I rather enjoyed.
Its a shame that most horror films are done to death, saw looks like its going the same way. While Saw 5 was not awful it was not that enjoyable. In many ways the Saw films feel like hell raiser where the first one is brilliant followed by a couple of good sequels and then with rather poor to awful sequels.

First two Chucky films are great, but I completely and utterly loathe 3, Bride. Seed being one the worst worst movies I ever had to sit through. :bluesad:
I agree.
The only reason I liked bride was it seemed like a joke. While a very poor film it had a nice change of attitude compared the the 3rd childs play film.
I liked the first one, it had good atmosphere and characters. Only complaint was that it had a bit too much of th kid for my tastes. The second one is a favorite, it's just so '80s (even though it's from 1990), the machines in the factory were in pastel colors :teddyr: The way they sliced and diced Chucky was great. Can't remember the third one, I know I've seen it but it must not have made much of an impression. Loved Bride of Chucky, great characters, great humor, and Kathy Heigl - mmmmmmm. Haven't seen Seed, I figure they made one really good funny one, what are the chances they could pull it off twice in a row? Pretty slim.
First one was ok..the rest were not. I'll admit, that I've never been a fan of this series. The ones I saw were more out of curosity or bordem. Even then I was flipping through the channels.
My main problem is I can never suspend my disbeilf with these movies. (And I've seen just about every bad man-in-a-suit monsters that Japan has thrown at us) Chucky never seemed to be a huge threat. When he sneaks up on somebody-maybe. But there are always people in this movie that see him comming at them, and then for some reason lose any spine that might have had. Chucky can't be that strong so it wouldn't be too difficult to over power him.
Honestly this is the only series I know of that doesn't have a stinker among its installments. 1 was a great blend of supernatural and psychological horror, 2 was even better than 1 in the scares department, 3 was OK, but a mediocre low point IMO, and the last two were chuckle-worthy horror-comedies, I personally enjoyed "Seed"'s sort of surreal feeling.

I kind of liked Seed Of Chucky for making a parody of itself. I think of it as the comedic version of a film like Wes Craven's New Nightmare. That and Jennifer Tilly bouncing around made it worth watching for me.
Personally I never really got into the CP sequels. I do however like the first one and remember seeing it a young age.

I watched the chucky films again.
I agree the parody of it self is very funny. Childs play 2 was amazing, I could not believe I had forgotten how enjoyable that film was.
CP3 is stil awful I wish they had kept to the kid actor.
I love the Chucky series. 3 was a clunker, but the writer/director admitted it was a mistake from the beginning. The studio expected two flicks back to back, which explains the reason why Andy was suddenly aged 8 years despite 2 & 3 being released within a year of each other.
Then Bride came out. Hilarious. I guess they figured by that point, the movies weren't being taken seriously, so they had to make them funny. That worked, the parody element. Seed was interesting, as it was more a parody of 'family dramas' like Kramer vs. Kramer.
I don't see why they NEED to remake 1. They can just continue the franchise with Chucky and his family.
While I have all the "Puppet Master" films and like them, I never was much of a "Chucky" series fan. I can take them or leave them.

I hate remakes. Only a few are ever better than the orginal.

True.
And, considering the 'lead actor' is a doll, it's not like they can't just continue the franchise. It's not like it's Freddy Kruger, where the actor gets older.

Very true they could easily continue. Only the voice actor may have to replaced but thats it if he can not do it for any reason.
I was very pleased at the end of the seed of chucky when he realised he preferred being a killer doll.
I love Jennifer Tilly...along with Elvira, obvioulsly.
That's all I got to say.
The only real enjoyable moment in childs play 3 is the death of the creepy barber.
Rewatched all the films since making the thread.
Yeah, you know I thought the whole voodoo thing was kind of a red herring. Was possession the only thing his voodoo master John ever taught him? Surely as a voodoo master, he knew some more stuff besides that to teach. "Look, man. I don't know how to tell you this, but before we get into zombification and voodoo dolls, you really need a new body. I'm talking pronto. Your Brad Dourif-like physique disgusts me. Here, let me show you this."

The voodoo master taught him to cheat death so apparently that is nearly all he taught except for voodoo dolls as he used his masters own voodoo doll to torture him.
The only good thing to come out of child's play 3 was a more f**ked up looking chucky.
