I've been lucky, but, I've always had good software protection, and I scan pretty much everything I download. I've downloaded virii, , but not executed them, therefore, no infection. Most of the times I know of when friends have gotten a virus, they got it from doing stuff they shouldn't, ie downloading pirated software and software pirating tools, surfing sites for hacked porn site passwords or other hacking tools, downloading stolen credit card lists and credit card number generators, etc. If you're not doing anything like that, you can be pretty safe as long as you're using some form of software protection.

My father got a terrible computer virus that took me a week to remove fully.

He has no idea where he got it.  Since he does nothing on the Web except read the news and play poker, I suspect he might have got it from a poker site.  Either that, or he's been visiting websites he doesn't want me to tell me about.   :wink:
