Okay, I've seen this scene imitated in several films (Antz comes to mind) where basically someone is looking up at something and, mesmerized, says, "It's beautiful!" and then said "beautiful" thing promptly kills the guy.
Anyone know what the ORIGINAL source of that scene is?
Thanks!
It's from Independence Day, when people gather at the top of a sky scraper before they are incinerated by the beam from the space ship. I think the sound effect is from the original War of the Worlds.
Same thing happened in "ANTZ".
Didn't the same thing happen in Raiders of the Lost Ark just before the bespectacled Nazi's head melted?

Huh.. are you sure? I could have SWORN it predates Independence Day... I was thinking they might have had a scene like that in the original Doctor Who or Star Trek or something... but I guess I could be wrong.
Somehow I have the feeling it is from Space Odyssee. When they look into the monolith? Or in the sequel? Not sure though...
... no. It's "It is full of stars!".
No idea...
Eyesore is correct ~ Paul Freeman sees the spirits coming out of the ark in Raiders Of The Lost Ark, he says "It's beautiful!" and suddenly, the angel face changes to that of a skull, and a while later, Freeman's head explodes. :buggedout:
And why was Raiders..rated PG but Scanners was R?

When you have a major studio with big name directors and people behind it, you can fight a film's rating. (Keep in mind, they didn't have PG-13 back then.)
Eyesore's Raiders example was the first thing that came to my mind as well. In fact, having not seen Antz, I can think of no other example.
