Title: demon or ghost haunts school?

My friend was describing a movie to me and it sounds like something I would want to watch, but he could not remember the title. He says it was about a demon or a ghost that haunts a school, but then falls in love with a boy and ends up killing anyone who opposes him, i.e. bullies, teachers, etc. He thinks it was an 80's flick but may be early 90's. Any ideas?

Are you sure its not The Devils Backbone?. I dont know about the falling in love part, but
the other parts seems to match.
