KYUKETSUKI GOKEMIDORO (1968 aka GOKE: BODY SNATCHER FROM HELL) "Kyuketsuki Gokemidoro..." (Thank goodness for IMDB!!)
Airplane crash, glowing spaceships, blob aliens invading your face... suicide bomber, fully armed assassin/hijacker, political intrigue, excrutiatingly badly translated subtitles, cute blonde American (KATHY HORAN best remembered from THE GREEN SLIME) with an absurd anti-war speech and an obsession with face wounds (how her Viet Nam vet husband had died, all filled in by dialogue between strangers to this woman who should not know any of that) vampires, stupid choices, cornball subplots... even a slobbering sex scene... this cheezee film has it all!!
GOKE was on IFC last night, and after a long week, and despite it's many thrilling elements, I had to hit the hay before it was over! Dang, I'm usually good 'til 3AM when SCHLOCK like GOKE is on. Anybody catch this last night, or have you seen it? Any other truly outstanding Japanese SCHLOCK to recommend?

Though this still in black & white, the film is glorious garish color. Oh... did I mention obscenely bad acting?
I have seen it on TCM before...about 2 years ago,I think. I thought it was quite surreal...a great non-giant monster sci-fi!
Another goofy japanese flik I like...MATANGO! (aka-Ataack of the Mushroom People!)-

Starting 3.24 in you see what she is freaked out about... well worth a peek...
I actually watched "Goke" on Thursday evening and throughly enjoyed it, although the apparent attempts at 'profundity' (the aforementionned speech etc) did fall a little flat in the face of the madness on display. I strongly liked the typically colourful Japanese cinematography and the tacky but effective special effects.
GOKE is great entertaining sci-fi weirdness, before the Japanese got all perverted on us. I need to see it again.
Not exactly the same vibe, but it does bring to mind cheesy stuff from a bit earlier in the decade like PRINCE OF SPACE and the STARMAN series.

Starman in ATOMIC RULERS OF THE WORLD (1964)
The scene where the assassin's forehead splits open and the alien blob crawls in was sublimely creepy. A favorite of Quentin Tarantino's, he supposedly borrowed some of the imagery for KILL BILL VOL. I.

Have you seen
GOKE,
Raffine?
I will have to look at
KILL BILL VOL. 1 again (again) more closely, my less favorite of the two, I have both on DVD and find the films very entertaining.

(I can't tell you how important those pigeons crashing bloodily into the plane's windows with the "
spli-oosh" sound effect are...)
