The year must of been 70's / 80's. I can't think of any of the actors / actresses. What I do know is the movie had a scene where a mother was driving and the son, who must have been 17 - 25 (sitting in the front) put on the song by Supertramp "Take the long way home" I believe the plot involved either the son or the mother killing the father was was violently abusing the family. Please, Please help, this is driving me nuts.
i think you're looking for "love hurts (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0102341/)", 1990.
check out the trailer (http://www.fandango.com/lovehurtsmovietrailer/90710), and let me know what you think.
Thanks Toyman, your input was greatly appreciated but sadly, no. It was not Love Hurts. As far as I can remember there were definitely no comedy references in the film I am looking for.
Thanks for your time Toyman.
A longshot, but check out RAIL KINGS (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0462017/) (2005).
Many thanks Rev. Powell.
Not Rail Kings.
A lot older than this one. I wish I had more to go on.
Thanks for trying though.
well, just for future reference, you can search IMDB for movies based upon what songs were on their soundtracks. take a look. none of the other films that has "take the long way home" sounds even remotely close to what you're looking for.
I'll take a look there now, see if any bell's start ringing.
Thanks again Toyman.
:thumbup:FOUND IT!!!

I was starting to doubt myself. It was the mother who was killed (by the husband) sorry for the confusion folks.
