Before Tom Cruise, there was Tommy Lee Jones.

Plot: A professional thief (Tommy Lee Jones) hides a stolen computer tape featuring the accounts of a villanous corporation in a futuristic car prototype. But before he can recover it, the prototype is stolen by a car theft ring. Now the thief has only 72 hours to enter the high-security skyscraper where the band operates...

Comments: For a film that has a script written by John Carpenter, this is not a very good film. But for a New World Pictures production made on a shoestring budget, it sure kicks ass. Despite being made in the 80s, this is actually a very 70s film, meaning it favours suspense instead of action. Rather than "Snake Plisskin" lite, think of Walter Hill's "The Driver" + "Mission Impossible". Well, plus "Knight Rider" or any other "vehicle" TV series, because the car prototype gets as much closeups than Jones.

The cast is also a plus. Tommy Lee Jones is quite convincing as the film's hero, if a bit wooden, but we get to see Linda Hamilton in a rare femme fatale role, and Robert Vaughn as a damn creepy villain. His character is even a bit original, because rather than a flamboyant criminal mastermind he's a rather mediocre, bureaucrat-type criminal, whose only excentricities are a gigantic crush on Linda Hamilton (I can't blame him) and a penchant for filming sex tapes.

Isn't the title BLACK MOON RISING?  I saw this on videotape soon after it was released and I didn't like it.

It is!  :buggedout:

Damn Creedence Clearwater Revival...  :bouncegiggle:

You should give the film a second chance. It's no big deal, but if you forget Carpenter was ever involved it's just a fun B-movie with a cool car.

I remember the opening was pretty cool. Tommy Lee Jones is trying to buy a cup of coffee in a convenience store and is delayed when the joint gets robbed. Boy, all I can say is don't get Tommy Lee Jones upset before he has his morning coffee.

Vaguely remember this one, I'll have to scout around and see it's the film I remember.
