Title: Heavy Metal In Baghdad (2007)
Post by: lester1/2jr on June 20, 2009, 10:07:52 AM
This is a much better way to learn about Iraq than watching Frontline or reading articles in time or newsweek.  It's about the struggles, that's really a huge understatement, of iraqs only heavy metal band Acrassicauda (black scorpion).  Their music is ...well they sound like a million other metal bands,  but the insane difficulty of what they are or were trying to do by being an iraq band is whats on display.  An iraqi band during the iraq war no less.

As one band memeber describes it,  during saddams reign he was the bad guy and you did what you had to to stay clear of him.  Once the insurgency started there were suddenly thousands of people you had to stay clear of and you had no idea who they were.   The iraq the reporters visit is hell.  Imagine a completely unsafe city where you could be killed at any moment,  where you had no freedom to move.  Eventually the band gets out of iraq but their future is still unclear, other than that because of the publicity they received from this movie they can never ever go back to Baghdad or they will definately be killed.  Really makes you appreciate what you have.  Unless you are somehow watching it in iraq.
