Title: "Ow, that hurt!" moments?
Post by: Trevor on June 25, 2009, 03:27:41 AM
The fight in the bathroom in The Dirty Dozen where Jim Brown and Clint Walker break up the beating of Charles Bronson by the two scumbags.

The ow!!! part of this is where one of the scumbags throws a punch at Clint who blocks the punch with his helmet, leaving the big tough guy screaming in pain and shaking his wrist. That never fails to make me smile.  :teddyr:

The guy gets crushed in two by the truck from Raiders of the Lost Ark

Not from a movie, but from the video game Phantasmagoria when the girl gets her head slashed into two by an axe.  I believed Spoony said it best when he saw the scene and said, "Oh!  You can't get much more owned that!"

The fire extinguisher scene at the beginning/end  of Irreversible. At first you're like ow that must hurt then it just goes on and on.

Perhaps beyond "Ow", but the moment where a character tries to stand up after having both achilles' tendons severed in Hostel springs to mind.  One of the most effectively awful and painful moments I can think of in a film.

That one also makes me think of the similar scene at the end of Pet Semetary. Yowtch.

The final trap in Saw V.  Most of the Saw stuff didn't bug me, but that last sequence is just freaking painful to watch...

(shudders)

The needles in AUDITION.

Someone pointed out that images of pain are much more effective when they are on a very small scale we can identify with.  We can laugh when we see a head being thrown from it's body, but we wince if we see a closeup of a needle piercing skin.

That reminds me: the "Is it safe?" scene from MARATHON MAN.

In "The Matrix" when Neo is sliding down that 'chute' while being flushed out of the power plant. He has all those weird implants along his spine, and he's pretty much sliding on them.

Decker getting his fingers broken in Blade Runner is way up there.

Take one sunken bathtub, toss in one boy scout, who's not very bright, add one blowjob from a woman with two inch fangs, and you have a moment that really, really hurts. From "Lair of the White Worm."

I think that moment in Blood Beach where the guy gets his junk bitten off had to hurt.  Oh well, it was attempting to rape a girl so it was alright.
