Title: Rate 3 Films ! ! !
Post by: Scott on March 24, 2002, 09:45:43 AM
I have a chance to eithier rent, buy or wait for AMC or TCM to show these films. Can someone rate them for me.

DONAVANS BRAIN

COUNT YORGA

DIE MONSTER DIE

Netflix has each of  them, They can also be purchased by the MGM Midnight Movie Collection on the internet or in many stores, and they are show often on AMC or TCM. I have seen the RETURN OF COUNT YORGA and I liked that one, so I'm guessing the original may be of the same type. I have not seen any of them.

I've seen Die Monster die. It's pretty boring, but it can be pretty fun if you're in the right mood. Basically, it's a knockoff of Corman's Poe films with Vincent Price, only with HP Lovecraft in place of Poe and Boris Karloff instead of Price. The highlight is definitely the greenhouse full of giant rubber octopi.

Vermin Boy is pretty accurate on this one.  I liked it, kind of.

It's based on Lovecraft's "Color Out of Space", although VERY loosely.  Better than "The Curse", the other movie based on COoS, it is still not the liveliest of films.

It also stars Nick Adams, the American co-pilot in "Godzilla v. Monster Zero."

I know next to nothing about the other two movies you've list, Scott.  "Yorga" is supposed to be good, however

DONAVAN'S DRAIN : The scene wher the brain comes up thru the bathroom pipes is particulary scary, espchualy the squishing sounds it makes in the darkness, before you finaly see it.  COUNT YOGA : Not so good. The idea of vampires wearing spandex while imitating pretzels just don't get it.  DIET,MONSTER DIET : Robbie Coltrain did this remake. The scenes in the exersise room full of fat vampires in spandex squareing off aginst the spinal fluid eating brain and it's telekenitly manipulated iron pipe wepons, is not to be missed, if for no other reason, the sight of Robbie Coltrain useing a cross made of celery to fend off the vampires, while holding up playboy centerfolds, to make the brain dispondent over the loss of certain body parts, and become vulnerable to a sharp rap with a plunger handle.   Oh...i'm sorry....did i get that wrong?

This is the only movie i've never been able to finish watching.  I rented this little *expletive deleted*  three times and never made it past an hour.  Maybe it's just me though.  I was kinda expecting something entertaining being a Lovecraft fan but oh well.
