Some of you have probably already seen the trailers for the upcoming G.I. Joe movie.
If you haven't, take a moment to check out the latest one:

I put this poll in the Bad Movies section because I think it looks like another Hollywood crapfest.
It looks overdirected, overproduced, overhyped, too slick, and just plain bad.
With the exception of Dennis Quaid and Snake Eyes, the entire cast looks like something straight out of "The Hills" or any other interchangable MTV reality show.
It feels like another example of Hollywood throwing money into a project without sticking to a good solid story. Another ridiculous "popcorn movie" in the same style as Michael Bay.
Seriously, nothing about this film feels like the G.I. Joe I knew and loved as a kid.
What do you guys think?
I kinda sensed bad things when the logo for it lacked the American flag, and I'm not even a G.I. Joe fan.
I'm gonna steer clear of it, just because it's a summer movie and I got enough of that from Transformers 2, doesn't look too interesting anyway.
As a fan of the Larry Hama comics, so far this is hurting my feelings more so than Transformers ever could. It just looks way too slick, and contrived the black suits especially. GI Joe to me was all about the variety of characters, each one had a specialty that made them work together great as a team. To make them appear all as Snake Eyes without the mask is just wrong headed.
On the positive side there are a few good casting calls here, Dennis Quad as General Hawk, Ray Park as Snake Eyes, and Arnold Vosloo as Zartan, but I am afraid whatever good they might add will be overshadowed by a dead-above-the-neck story, and lame direction. I don't know if I can bring myself to see this one.
Should have made this 20 years ago, fools I say! A curse on all their houses!.
For me, the only way for this to come close to working is if they broke out all the signature uniforms and went total cheese with it. A movie about special government ops seems way too generic to me.
THIS is GI Joe-

I was a little to old to watch the cartoon or read the comic book-so the movie means zip to me.

Amen! G.I. Joe died when they shrunk him into an "action figure" and stopped making the 12"-tall version. G.I. Joe is a soldier, a grunt, not a futuristic commando dude.
I Always Thought G.I. Joe Was Supposed To Be A Vietnam War Special Forces Soldier
The New Movie Does Not Even Look Remotely Similar!
This HAS To Be The Work Of Michael Bay! :hatred:
I'm all over this movie like Keira Knightley's throat on a finger after dinner!!! You all might pooh-pooh this film, but deep down you know it's gonna be good... (*snicker*)
...heck, it can't be worse that Transformers 2, right?
(I'll make sure to report in once I see it)
 This is gonna blow!
From the commercials the actors look sort of annoyingly obnoxious. I dunno, I'll probably read a review or two after it comes out - probably be good for a laugh.
Aug 7 ... Todays the day, I hope its good.
I think it looks good. Will it be a masterpiece of cinema? not likely. Im going this weekend to see it at the drive in.. double feature, G.I. Joe and Transformers. :teddyr: I have seen transformers already but will stay and watch it again( I have a 7 yr old that loves it) I just hope by the time both are over I have enough brain cells left to find my way home.
Wish I had a drive-thru anywhere near 100 miles of where I live......sigh....
Saw it. Enjoyed it. Felt too long though, kind of dragged a bit. Solid, entertaining film.
7/10
Just got back, and all I'm saying is ... The Baroness was HOT, Sienna Miller did a great job and I think Channing Tatum did great job with Duke as well. The movie was a little long and very loud at times, but it was a WAR movie sooo ... Also IMO the movie had very little to do with the 80's toons / toys. But thats OK, really ... it still was a great ACTION movie.
BTW- the ending had some nice surprises ... You'll see.
I give it a
It won't be considered high art. For a popcorn movie to just sit back, it was good...
Though, did the unmasked Storm Shadow remind anyone else of a bad Elvis Impersonator?
I'm going to wait until this comes out on video. I did read the comic but never watched the cartoon. I will laugh if one of them mentions having a kung fu grip however.

Looking it up, it appears the storylines and characters are considerably closer to the comic versions than the toon versions. I watched the show, but not heavily. Overall, I thought it kept the basic concepts and most of the updates were decent (though the Cobra Commander mask is horrendously bad, and Snake Eye's molded lips were dumb). It's certainly closer than the Transformers movies.
However, I will say the action scenes really do pretty much seem like the kinds of crap I'd do when playing with GI Joe's. This includes some disconnects with logic and reality, but it's all in good fun.
Speaking of the character Snake Eyes, I remember that Marvel Comics had an issue of the G.I. Joe comic that was a first in the industry that featured the character. It was the first published comic from a comic company that had no words in it whatsoever. The entire panels of the comic told the story of Snake Eyes infiltrating a COBRA base and fighting that white cladded ninja.
As far as the molded lips on his costume in the film, that does suck as a consept. The character of Snake Eyes in the comic was a guy who was bady scarred and alway hid his face behind a mask. Also he could not speak but was one awsome ninja/special ops sort of guy. Adding lips to his costume in the film sounds about as dumb as adding nipples to the Bat Suit in the Batman movies.
Bullcrap this movie blowed.

I will say Snake Eyes NEVER speaks in the film. You also never see his face (except in a flashback as a child). Just to make that clear.
Quote"G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" overcame bad buzz and scathing reviews to win the weekend with $56.2 million, among the best August openings in history for a non-sequel.

I saw it today. Sure, the plot and dialogue are thin, and sure some of the CGI looks a bit unfinished (particularly some of the scenes in the desert), but this is an action-packed, escapist, summer, popcorn piece of entertainment. I enjoyed it and wouldn't mind seeing it again. I didn't even mind Dennis Quaid hamming it up . . .
The scene in Paris is absolutely amazing!!
and yeah, sienna miller and rachel nichols are REALLY hot
I think it was a fun movie. Popcorn all the way.
They could have deleted half of Ripcords line and I would have been happy :p
I thought it was fun in a big dumb popcorn flick kind of way. I was surprised that I enjoyed it as much as I did.

My thoughts eactly.
Like a lot of the others, I thought it was good in a popcorn way, nothing too deep about it. I DIDN'T like the revelation about Duke and the Baroness though, that was just DUUUHHHHMB. Way to big of a coincidence to swallow.
