i just got this one, havent seen it since the late 80s. wow! its a fun movie, its very troma like. they dont make em like this anymore. it scared me as a kid, espescially the tar-man thing that crawled out of the barrel. look at that thing! thats the stuff of nightmares! i was always afraid that thing was hiding in my grandma's basement. i think they should make a movie with just a couple of those things running loose. some of the characters crack me up, like suicide. thats the tough guy with a chain through his nose. hes like f this, f that, f you! in one scene hes standing there whining how nobody understands him, while his girl (linnea quigley) dances around naked. it kind of sucks the way it ends, it seems like the ran out of ideas or budget.
I love Return of the living dead. A great B movie zomibe flick.
This weekend I'm going to meet MIGUEL NUNEZ (Spider from Return of the living dead)

Oh how cool!! He was so funny! Take pictures!
The most ironic thing is that for such a fun movie, it has the 'worst' zombies I can think of. You can't stop them! You cut them up and the pieces come after you, you burn them and they get in the soil and make more zombies.
How would you stop a ROLD zombie?
This one is in my top 5 of all time favs.

The second movie provides a lame weakness (electricity kills them). I prefer the third movie - ice guns! That really makes the most sense. That or extremely high caliber machine guns. Use a BMG and you could probably cut them into pieces, or at least ruin enough flesh so they couldn't move.
Oh yeah, and ROTLD is a great film. One of the best 80s movies!
"Send more paramedics!" hehe....GREAT movie.

Are you kidding? I love the ending.
"Apparently, they've got some sort of contingency plan to deal with it." :bouncegiggle:
I agree with you Andy, that ending was a great idea.

I first saw this at a drive-in on Lonf Island in the 80's-without sound! we were on a hill next to the drive in drinking Johnny Walker Red and Jim Beam-me and my brother Glenn. A couple of days later we went to a movie theater outside of Shirley (LI) and watched it drinking Jim Beam we smuggled in....! GREAT FILM!!!! I was really into punk at the time-this movie was perfect!!! The first punk-horror film!!!

Agreed, there was only one way to end this film and breaking out the nukes was the answer.
ROTLD is easily one of my favorite movies of all time. Highly quotable as well.
Am I the only one who feel James Karen deserves an award for his performance in this film?
"it kind of sucks the way it ends, it seems like they ran out of ideas or budget."
let me backtrack a little. the very end of the movie fits the story, the part involving the nukes. its the some of the other scenes that kind of sucked. (IMO) keep in mind that i do like the movie. when the boyfriend busts through the attic door where the girl and the mortician are hiding, the scene just freezes. what happened? did anybody notice at one point when the girl is crying and the mortician is holding her, he points the gun at the back of her head? I know everybody gets fried by the nukes, but what about the 2 guys that got away in the car? is it possible that they could have drove far enough to escape the nuclear blast?
I'm almost sure nobody escaped that nuclear blast. That blast was right in the center of the city.
Even if they did, remember? it started again anyway. (the deadly toxic rain) aka Zombie Fest 2.
IMO - The mortician was going to shoot Tina so she didn't have to die by Zombie Freddy.
I really like this film, but for some reason I sold my DVD a number of years ago. I first caught most of it in edited form on TV late at night. I was hooked pretty quickly and I thought it was a great mix of frightening scenes and comical ones. I loved it even more when they ended up nuking the city I live in.
i like how ebert gave it 4 stars!
any other flicks like this out there?
y'know, of the neon-punk-horror variety?

I always heard there was an alternate ending, though I never did much to research it. Does seem like the end is made up of previous footage.
Few years ago the Alamo Drafthouse had a ROTLD reunion screening most of the cast was there, good times
Quotebut what about the 2 guys that got away in the car?
Are you talking about Spider and Burt? They drove back to the warehouse and Burt was the one who called the number on the tank.
I didn't like the ending the first time I saw it but on subsequent viewings I find it funnier and funnier every time. Especially the lack of reactions from the military general. Just another day at the office.
I wasn't too hot about the first sequel, though I do realize what they were trying for, having everyone revive their roles but as different characters was genius, but beyond that it's kind of a poor movie. I do like 3, but I realize I'm close to alone with that one.
