When I first read about this movie I thought Sidney Lumet was crazy. He couldn't get Joe Pesce for the lead, so he recruits Vin Diesel!
Surprisingly to some Diesel does a helluva job as a middle aged gangster.
I posted about this movie the first time I saw it, but I recently picked up the DVD at Big Lots for $3 and watched it again the other night.
If you haven't seen it, do so I think you'll be surprised.
Here's the old post (I don't know how it ended up in the Bad Movies category) http://www.badmovies.org/forum/index.php/topic,112218.msg123343.html#msg123343
I have had this on my watch list for awhile but the 2 hr run time has kept me from watching it. I guess i will just have to settle down with a big bowl of popcorn and watch it.
I watched it when it hit theatres and thought it was a very good gangster drama. It was very interesting to watch the gangsters at trial, how they still behaved like they were bigtime. And there were quite a few witty moments, like the opening attack against Vin Diesel's character and how he later confronts his attacker while on trial.
But then they advertised the whole thing as a comedy and they p**sed off all potential viewers.
