Title: Monster Movies
Post by: NuclearHeavyMetalMonster on September 20, 2009, 02:28:43 PM
Can someone recommend me a few good monster b-movies? Those have always been my favorite. Yes I know the Blob and other classics but I am currently looking for more. Zombies are considered monsters to me so those would be great aswell.

For some reason youtube videos don't show up when you are trying to post them on forums. I just get a big space.

I looked it up on youtube myself though. Looks like I'll be laughing the whole way through it but I'll have to check it out sometime.

The Black Scorpion

Not the Roger Corman superheroine movie, but the black and white giant arachnid rampage movie.  I't's got some great stop-motion moments.  I don't know why this movie doesn't get more mentions on b-movie sites.

The new Gamera Trilogy are a good series of giant monster movies.

And I suppose I really should mention the movie I chose as my screen name.  Q, the Winged Serpent

I find "Gorgo" and "The Giant Behemoth" very entertaining.

* THE BEGINNING OF THE END

* THEM!

* THE DEADLY MANTIS

* THE GIANT BEHEMOTH

* THE HOST (although, I found the Korean cultural elements difficult to relate to).

* YONGARY, MONSTER FROM THE DEEP

* THE GIANT GILA MONSTER

* CURSE OF THE FACELESS MAN (sort of like a mummy movie)

* THE CRAWLING EYE

* TARANTULA

* EARTH VS. THE SPIDER

* THE MONOLITH MONSTERS (if you consider giant crystals to be monsters)

* IT! THE TERROR FROM BEYOND SPACE

* THE HORROR OF PARTY BEACH

* KONGA

To name just a few . . .

I personally recommend the entire Tremors series.  It is probably one of the best monster series around, even if 3 and 4 aren't extremely great.

I absolutely love the tremors series. I still ahve the first two on VHS, and the collection on DVD. It is my second favorite movie, only preceeded by Forrest Gump.

You can never go wrong with the "Critters" series. All of them are awesomely cheesy. I strongly recommend the first two. Check out the third one if you want (it may be a weaker entry, but it's still entertaining). The 4th one isn't bad either, but it's no doubt the weakest one in the series.

What, no love for TREMORS? I like the whole series...well, okey, #4 has some moments...kinda...

Nothing wrong with Tremors at all. It fits the bill. Here are some less-obvious offerings:

Don't Be Afraid of the Dark (1973) - lots of little monsters.
Inframan (1975) - a martial arts superhero film from China that has monsters that, for some reason, know kung-fu.

This movie almost completely defines 1970s drive-in B-movies.  Thanks for mentioning it.

You really need to see Them!. Great story, corny but not too corny. It's a time capsule in itself. Them! has a good bit of Cold War nuclear paranoia in it.
