Title: THE SHORTCUT (2009)
Post by: indianasmith on October 18, 2009, 01:31:07 PM
This horror movie really isn't that scary for the first hour.  An abandoned trail leads through the woods near an elementary school to a residential neighborhood nearby, but the kids won't use it because of the "crazy old man" who lives at the house in the woods.

But then a young kid does take the short cut, and gets scared and chased by the old man.  His brother and friends go to investigate.   The middle seqence of the movie that follows is really more like a live-action SCOOBY DOO episode than a horror movie, but as the kids finally uncover the secret of the old man and his house, they get caught up in a genuinely scary ending with a nasty little twist  after you think it's all over.

This film could not make up its mind wether to be teen drama or horror; I enjoyed it somewhat, but it neeed to be darker to make it as a horror film,  or lighter to work as a teen drama.  Not a  dreadful way to spend an evening, but not that great either.

Get it off the dollar shelf when it's been out awhile.

This was written by Adam Sandler's brother for the Scary Madison wing of his production company.  :bouncegiggle: I expected nothing less. This was their first horror outing.
