This was a fun, campy B movie with giant bugs, a lovable slacker hero a la Shaun of the Dead, a tough, good-looking doctor, gung-ho ex Marine dad, and a blond TV meteorologist whose sole purpose was to provide the move with its Random Gratuitous Breast Shot.
Cooper is a slacker who is about to be fired from his job when he and everyone in the office are felled by a high pitched buzzing shriek. When he comes around, he finds that he and his boss and everyone else have been encased in silk coccoons - and that the office (and, seemingly, the whole world) has been invaded by giant carnivorous bugs.
So he begins to release people from their silk coccoons one by one, until a small group of survivors is assembled, trying to figure out what their next move will be.
This move doesn't take itself too seriously and is just some good, giant bug fun.
I completely agree. I expected the usual insect B-movie, but soon noticed the humour set this one apart from the rest, and that's a good thing.
And Ray Wise... that man rules, he got quite a mileage from a rather limited militar parody role.
