Well, I am now LITERALLY as well as metaphorically a Great Uncle.
My oldest niece gave birth to a little girl Monday night at around 8pm. She's six pounds, nine ounces (dunno what that would be grams, sorry friends from Europe!), and about 18 1/2 inches tall. Both mother and child are doing fine.
Now, great as it is to have an new niece, I do have to admit, I kind of wish the timing could have been different. It would have been nice if this had happened maybe five or so years down the road, when my niece is a little older (she's 18 now) and actually in a stable relationship, but, hopefully everything will work out for the best...
Anyway, I present to you: Braelyn Faith.

She is adorable. congratulations on being a great uncle
Congrats to you and your niece, and I hope everything works out for her.
She's a cutie!!
On a little note, I've been an uncle since I was five months old.

Congrats! She is extremely cute.
Congrats!
Congrats! Remember, new parents will love you more if you bring food and/or diapers with you when you visit. Oh...and telling them to "go take a nap while I watch the baby" puts you a savior status.
Congratulations!

I've got you beat on a technicality: I've got two nieces that are older than I, but they are my brother-in-law's children from a marriage before he married my sister, so they are really only nieces-in-law.

For some reason my sibs never trusted me with their babies... or even alone with their kids when they were older, ever since that incident when I was twelve and I was babysitting a neighborhood boy, but that was totally NOT my fault. I didn't think he'd take my "burn the house down" joke seriously. (Plus, I don't know WHERE that kid got the matches, it certainly wasn't from me...)
I just got some email from my mom with some more details about the birth. I must say, the atmosphere in the delivery room must have been interesting to say the least. Get this, the father of the baby was there... along with his NEW girlfriend (my niece and him had broken up several months ago). My niece also had HER new boyfriend (I didn't know she HAD one) and his parents there as well.
Like I said, I'm just hoping for the best... I love my niece but I have trouble imagining her as a parent. (Course, I had the SAME thoughts about my sister when she first had Ashley...)
 Great news, BTM.
I'll have to call you GUBTM from now on.

Aw what a cutie! I love those stupid sock hats the hospitals put on babies.
