Title: The Shaft (2001)
Post by: InformationGeek on November 01, 2009, 01:58:16 PM
I just bought this film for  4 bucks because I thought it was The Lift, the film Andrew reviewed.  It turns it that it isn't and it is at well.  The film is a remake of the original killer elevator movie and it happens to be remade by the actual director of the first film.  I am a little curious about this film now that I bought it and learned that it is a remake.  Before I watch it, to those who have seen the film, is it good?  Is it better than the original?  Is it terrible?

I had mixed feelings about this one.  I never watched the original, but this one wasn't all that good, IMO.  I feel like Naomi Watts slipped a few times on her acting.  The film itself just wasn't as fun as I expected it to be, but I will say the decapitation scene in the remake is a lot creepier.  They use CG, of course, but just seeing the guy's face go from panicked and desperate to lifeless is just unnerving.

I enjoyed it.  Thought it was quite a bit of fun, the actors were enthusiastic, the plot was absurd.  It had some cool scenes.  I'd give it a whirl.
