Right, come on, own up. Who likes The Sweet? I do and I'm not afraid to admit it. :teddyr:
I know there's others on this board (some with very sophisticated tastes) that like this band and appreciate them for their impact on the glam rock scene and pop scene in general, plus their influence was HUGE. Their hits were so damn catchy and well written and although they had outside writers to begin with, the boys proved they could play and hell could they sing! Not many people know that they never played their "hits" live, mostly b-sides and heavier album cuts, thus leading to the shift from bubblegum pop to straight up hard rock.
I'd have to say my favourite member was Steve Priest and my favourite songs were "Lies In Your Eyes", "Fox On The Run", "Midnight To Daylight" and "No You Don't".
I want to know your thoughts! :tongueout:
Well, I've always liked SWEET. I grew up with all those songs, "Fox on the Run," "Ballroom Blitz," "Little Willy," "Action"...

"Glam" "Glitter" "Pop" all meant little to me then, I just listened to and bought records I liked. 'Course, now I see your point as I've come full circle and even went thru a "Glam Rock" phase where it was all ROXY MUSIC, NEW YORK DOLLS, early BOWIE, even hunted up non-sellers like BRETT SMILEY and JOBRIATH...
I do remember thinking ELTON JOHN's band (particularly on the back of Caribou) were real big girls... :bouncegiggle:
Everybody on this board is cool about each other's musical tastes which run the gamut. Admit it. You jus' wanna talk 'bout THE SWEET!! Oh yeh, "No You Don't"

'Course, you have to take a lot of this Glam stuff tongue in cheek... boys will be girls... :bouncegiggle:  :tongueout:

I also liked "The Six-Teens", "Stairway To The Stairs", "California Nights", "Wig Wam Bam" and "Teenage Rampage". They're mostly stupid, but they have a wonderful beat and the vocals are terrific. Kind of like Duran Duran's music. :teddyr:
My mother was a huge The Sweet fan. She even went to one of their concerts back in the 70s.
I grew up with their music, my fave album was The Sweet (1972) which is noted at discogs.com as a special pressing for Germany.
So yeah, they had some cool tunes and I still listen to them on my iTunes ocassionally.
I'm a baby of the 1960's and a child of the 1970's so any and all music from that time makes me smile and makes my comfortable in my own skin for a while.
I always liked Alvin Stardust's music ~ I will never forget his song My Coo Ca Choo and the song on that disc's flipside Pull Together with its' immortal line "There's too many chickens on the farm, mother....." :buggedout: :teddyr:

I also liked "The Six-Teens"
Speaking of the "Six-Teens", here's a stunning live version from the early 90's. It features original members Andy Scott and Mick Tucker (RIP) with new vocalist Mal McNulty.

Now, Sweet isn't as "sweet" without Brian Connolly (RIP) and Steve Priest, but I do think that this line-up sounded far more powerful as a live act. Although the studio album they released titled "A" isn't all that astounding...
I'm a fan of The Sweet. I get crap for it all the time by people, but I really don't care. I like what I like, and if you don't like that, you can F off. :bouncegiggle:
I grew up being introduced to Bowie, New York Dolls, Sweet, Ramones, a whole slew of different styles.
I have the greatest hits cd and several songs from it on my iPod. I've also been known to sing BALLROOM BLITZ at karaoke bars.
Me too! Though Little Willy is my personal preference.
Who the hell are you people talkin' about?
No, seriously, I have a Pandora station built around these gents. I love the music. I makes me want to jump around and tear stuff up without being drunk at the time.

Absolutely. I like all the songs mentioned here. Ballroom Blitz is my personal favourite, possibly because it's such a good, timeless rock tune. Still holds up all these years later. And it's just one of those great party tunes people instantly recognize and want to sing along with. Loads of energy and just a lot of fun. They don't write 'em like that anymore.
I learned guitar on Ballroom Blitz. Well the "easy version" anyway. Amazing song.
minor claim to fame...years ago when I was about 16-17 I used to babysit for our next door neighbours' kids, and their dad was a friend of the keyboard player from The Sweet. phwooar, make that an ultra-claim to fame!*
* I don't really like The Sweet much though
