Title: What do you have no expertise in?
Post by: Mr. DS on December 09, 2009, 06:41:50 PM
Going along with Burgo's post about being an expert, are there things you really suck at that you have no expertise what so ever?  I have a long list but heres a few to start...

1.) Being A Handyman In General - From cars to washing machines to plumbing I find that I absolutely hate fixing things and I often don't have the patience  or knowhow to do it. Granted if I am shown how to fix something I'll never have to ask someone to do it again.   Still, if something mechanical sounds like its working wrong I wouldn't ask me.

2.) Putting Things Together - Kind of going along with #1, I suck at assembling things.  Its frustrating to me and I don't have the patience.

3.) Bowling - I am good at many sports but absolutely can not master any bowling skills what so ever.  I am a lefty and have this awful natural curve that lands me in the gutter every time.

Along those lines I suck at anything past basic math.

Auto repair - last time I did anything beyond putting gasoline in one, it caught fire and had to have the fire department put it out. I have permanently damaged many when I was left alone in an attempt to repair even the most minor of issues.

Not too good with working closely with other people.  I'm very antisocial.
Cars.  Don't like to drive 'em, don't like to watch 'em race, don't like fixing 'em in any way.
Controlling my anger when I either hurt myself or when my sports teams play crappy. :teddyr:
Holding excess amounts of alcohol.  BLEARGH!!!

Automobile and home repairs.  When the simplest thing goes wrong, I pay to have it fixed rather than fixing it myself.

Just be glad you're not a South African cricket team supporter, then. Those buggers can never win when it matters.  :tongueout:

Computers.  I feel like there's this enormous body of knowledge out there, but I don't even know where to start.  And I have no patience with that stuff, and very little ambition to learn.  I used to have my Windows 98 machine sort of figured out, after about 8 years, but then it finally died so I got this Vista machine.  Ain't got a clue.  Got a "100% Vista compatible" printer and ended up taking it to Best Buy and having them get it to work with this computer.

like others have said, math. I can add and subtract but get a little confused after that.   :teddyr:

Cooking. I can cook but its no frills and that not great. I hate to cook and it definitely shows.

Patience...I have less of it every year.

I can't fix simple things, it's like I have two left hands.

I have no ability with most mechanical things, certainly have very little understanding of cars and other vehicles. That said, I do have some interest in electronic devices.

I'm also terrible at most sports and usually cannot be bothered to recall all the rules of play.

I'm a terrible carpenter. Can't really nail together anything in any sensible manner. Most stuff I'd try would probably come only looking like something built by Homer Simpson. That said, I am good at reading instructions and putting stuff together with a step by step guide like stuff one buys from Wal-Mart and assembles for example.

I'm a jack of all trades, meaning I'm even at everything and excel at nothing.  Although, I'm not very good at most sports.  I just don't apply myself to them very well, and I usually don't care enough when I play them.
