Post by: Cthulhu on December 22, 2009, 06:32:11 PM
Best animated movie ever.

What are your thoughts?

It's a good movie.  Maybe not the best animated movie ever, but still pretty damn good.

I like it.  Certainly the best sound track to an animated film.

Heavu Metal was and still is my favorite magazine.  I loved both films, especially the first.

HEAVY METAL was a very popular mag when I was young.I even was interviewed by Mattie Simmons in 1984 for a job interview in NYC! I showed her some of my art-I was to come back in a week-but I left NYC because I was goin' nuts living in the Bronx. I really f2cked up. Anyway, the movie-I love the soundtrack...but my favorite animated feature has to be FANTASIA.

Killer soundtrack
I think the movie still holds up today
didn't care for the sequel though

The sequel was horrid.  Michael Ironside was about the only good thing in it.

As for the original, my favorite vignette was probably the first.
STERRRRRRRRRRRRRNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Saw it at the drive-in when first released. I really liked it, especially the music.

I found it a bit tiresome....  :bluesad:
I know I'm in the minority, but I thought it was a little too mainstream. Harold Ramis does a voice for crying out loud (!)
I liked the South Park episode that made fun of it.

Heavy Metal is an amazing movie, easily the best anthology movie I've seen and one of the best fantasy films, as well.

If ever there was a movie that seemed to be made especially for me, Heavy Metal is it.  I hate to say it this way but, I get it.  I get the movie.  I get what they were going for and I think they hit the bull's eye.

Kinda agree with you. I liked it when it came out. I was on the verge of puberty and it was animated and had tits, for crying out loud. It's not a bad film, and it certainly belongs in the "Bad Movie" forum because it's an enjoyable bad movie.

I like it.  Not the best but up there.  The woman in the movie were a little unrealistic  :tongueout:  other than that, great movie.  Great sound track too.

I would put this up there with Rock and Rule and Robot Holocuast.

Later,

John

Honestly its over rated. The animation is rather poor and the stories are not particularly interesting. The only thing good about it is animated boobies and the music. It also has that Ralph Bakshi style of animation that i hate so much. Its not fluid, all rotoscoped and way to cartoonish, like a adult popeye cartoon.

It's a movie with fond memories for me but I really think it's a hollywood hatchet job on the original stories (being a giant Heavy Metal Magazine junky in the seventies and eighties).  The Beautiful and Deadly with the cocaine and the comedians was distracting.  John Candy was an interesting but poor choice for Den's voice.  It's still fun but definitely much  better animated fare out there.

Actually taarna was rotoscoped over a live model.

Now the other women were kinda exaggerated, I do admit... :tongueout:

Sorry, guy, but john candy was perfect for den. They wanted someone who sounded kind of geeky and wimpy, and he did a perfect voice for the pre-transformation den.

It made for a great Midnight Show to weasle into when I was a young teen. 20 + years ago. I haven't wacthed it since then but I think the experience would suffer without the scent of "stoners" and White Castle sliders in the air.

Actually the only nudity is images of taarna from the movie. The site has images of the model used to rotoscope taarna, which I thought you might like. She;'s wearing a swimsuit.

There are some fanart pics of taarna, generally done with respect and reverence to the character. It's not porn, I just thought if you were a tarna fan you'd love the site, it's pretty safe, with just the images from the film having some animated nudity.
