Title: Best 80's Rock/Metal Band
Post by: diamondwaspvenom on December 23, 2009, 09:43:17 AM
Well, it's the time to vote for your favourite 1980's band. My picks are (obviously) King Diamond, W.A.S.P., Venom, Slayer and Metallica. How about you?

P.S. Sorry about leaving some bands out. These were the first that came to mind.

If you're talking thrash I'd have to say Testament is my favorite.  As for glam/hair metal I'll give the nod to Ratt.

Nice choices. Again, sorry about leaving some bands out.

Well it would be impossible to list them all.  I'd have to say some of my other favs are Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax and SOD for thrash.  Hair metal I'm also into Motley Crue, Winger, Britny Fox, Bulletboys and many others.

I went with Metallica, Ozzy and Dokken.  My two others would Van Halen and Def Leppard.  My favorite Van Halen albums were definitely the first two from the '70s, but they had some pretty good stuff in the '80s as well.  Def Leppard was a bit cheesy, but I'm kind of a cheesy guy  :teddyr:

Dio had some great tunes, but he had an awful lot of filler material on his albums as well.  I always admired Malmsteen's technical ability, but his solos sounded like scale exercises unfortunately.

Actually I'm cool with Def Leppard but I find I need to shelf their music at times.

I voted for Venom, Celtic Frost, and Kreator. Celtic Frost deserves mention because I think To Mega Therion has to be the heaviest album I've ever heard, despite the huge misstep that was Cold Lake. Kreator rules because Extreme Aggression was a staple for me when I was in my early teens and German thrash was much more aggressive than the Bay Area stuff that was big at the time. And man, you just can't go wrong with Venom - they were/are like an evil Motorhead.
