I'm watching this movie for my next review and it seems like an interesting movie at first glance. I'm just starting it right now and curious to hear what your thoughts are about the film. It looks like it combines CGI and puppetry for the snake effects and it has a rather recongizable cast. Last thing to note is that fascinatingly enough, Roger Ebert gave the film 3 out of 4 stars, but also gave the same thing to Congo.
This movie has bad CGI and the scene where we see the snake underwater with Owen Wilson in it's belly looks stupid and very fake.
I hated this movie. It has one decent looking kill scene, but the rest is garbage with awful CGI. Just a pathetic vehicle for J-Lo's pathetic acting career.
For a movie that got a theatrical release, I think it compares poorly to the majority of direct-to-video giant snake movies out there. At least they're usually schlocky enough to be entertaining.
Wasn't there some crappy straight to video sequels? Ah yes, here we are. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118615/movieconnections)

I've got part 3 on DVD :teddyr:
I liked it. It was campy and Jon Voight was pretty over the top.
I liked this move too. To me Jon Voight stole the movie - Not the acaconda! :teddyr:
I saw it once after it came out on video and I remember hating it. There is a funny scene that occurs after the boat becomes immobilzed near a waterfall; when the boat gets moving again, the shot of it backing away from where it was stuck is the same shot in reverse (the waterfall is rising up!).
Although this sucks, the second movie is great.

So true. Jon Voight is the only reason to watch Anaconda.
I know I've seen it, but I don't remember anything at all - I guess that's a bad sign. Or, wait, doesn't Ice Cube get eaten by an anaconda? Or does he survive?

I believe he survives.

Yes, he survives, which goes against the film stereotype that the black actor in the film always dies. But (IMHO) having seen any number of films with Jon Voight, any film in which Voight gives a bad performance, and again (IMHO) his performance is pretty poor is just a bad film and not in a good way.
I have no idea why Jon Voight attempted that ridiculous accent. It's almost as bad as the one Nick Nolte used in LORENZO'S OIL.

Agreed. What the hell kind of accent was it supposed to be? Portuguese maybe? It had the rubber stamp clearly stating "this guy's affecting an accent." Horrible.

I spent 4 months working in Portugal and have been to Brazil numerous times (plus, my wife is from Brazil). And Voight's accent is no kind of Portuguese I've ever heard. It's just BAAAAAAAD.
I like ANACONDA for the simple fact that my kids were very young, and I took them to see this at the old Strand theater in Paw Paw Michigan. It brought back old memories of me as a kid watching crap like PSYCHIC KILLER, FROGS, HOMBODIES etc-at the same old ratty ass movie house I went to! We ate popcorn,Jujys,RC Cola, and the screamed and we hadda great time! I felt like I was 10 years old again! That kinda fun is priceless.
