Title: Looking for some recommendations
Post by: Flick James on January 08, 2010, 02:29:58 PM
My wife and I are planning on a good old fashioned trip to the video store for a B-movie marathon. I'd like some recommendations of titles that are as over-the-top bad as you can think of that would actually be at a Blockbuster/Hollywood video location. Gore, exploitation, whatever over-the-top you can think of, just no sci-fi, only because my wife is not a big fan. Just want some suggestions. I know, there are limitations at that kind of place, but I'm sure they may have some gems.

Trying to guess at what Blockbuster or Hollywood Video stocks can be difficult, and that is going to remove a lot of over-the-top titles I would suggest.  Perhaps:

Story of Ricky
They Call Her One Eye (censored version of Thriller:  A Cruel Picture (http://www.badmovies.org/movies/thrillercruel/))
Machine Girl
The Apple
Dolemite
Willie Dynamite

Wow, this gets very hard trying to guess movies available via those rental chains and avoiding science fiction.

Heh heh. I enjoy sci-fi, but it's not my wife's bag, so we're leaving that out. She doesn't share my level of b-movie appreciation, but she does occasionally enjoy joining me in some trash entertainment.

Sorry, I didnt see the no-sci-fi... :)

I think it would be cheaper and effecient to buy one of those 10/20 movie packs... :)

I recommend "The Black Ninja" from 2003. I really can't say much other than it will have you on the floor as you scratch your head.

May is a horribly underrated film.  I loved it and thought the main actress was lovely.  I need to add that to my collection.  Thanks for adding to my credit card debt, Sister Grace.      :twirl:

Ah, I've seen May, nice little film. My wife liked it too. Not everyone shares my opinion, though.

Angela Bettis is quite a dish. Her and Lucky Mckee (i think that is the director's name, i could be wrong) have worked together several times. if you liked May, you should check out Roman. She directs Lucky this time and movie has a lot of the same feel to it as May.

Here are my recommendations. "Motorhome Massacre" is about the cheapest made piece of s**t, I've seen in a decade. It makes no attempt to deny that fact. The knife in one shot is seen from the killer's P.O.V. and it's clearly made out of paper. As for a plot (lol), it's an obvious 80's slasher knock off. The acting is just painful. "Ninja Cheerleaders" is a nice cheezy comedy/exploitation flick. It's the story of three college cheerleaders who are strippers by night. They also just happen to have mad ninja skills which help them fight crime. Mr. Sulu from "Star Trek" is the girls sen-say. Both movies are terribly acted, but "Ninja Cheerleaders" is at least a somewhat professional production. Where as "Motorhome Massacre" is strictly ametuer. Both made me laugh really hard.

Thanks for all the replies. My wife and I finally made it to Blockbuster. What a load of crap. We looked through the horror section and, other than the typical Friday the 13th/Halloween/Elm Street fare, the best we were able to find was Evil Dead II, Last House on the Left (the original), and Killer Clowns from Outer Space. Looked for Phantasm since I haven't seen it in awhile and I figured that would have a good shot of being there, but no, not a single one from the series. So much for that idea. We got Evil Dead II because my wife had never seen it, and Last House on the Left because I had never seen it the original. I like the latter. Definately some cheesy bits, especially the music and the bumbling country cops. Definately disturbing, especially the eventual shooting of the central teen character.

This is why Blockbuster is losing to Netflix... :)
