I just got a DVR the other day and thus far it has helped me to see more episodes of thundarr the Barbarian and The Outer Limits than I normally would. I also have a Netflix membership.
with these two things, I am doing pretty good as far as the movies. how about you?

I usually rent most of my movies. I also buy a lot of cheap DVDs (Mill Creek, etc...). I make a point to never download a movie unless it's in the public domain or the actual filmmaker is putting it up to download. (Michael Dean's DIY or DIE for instance.)
My public library has quite an extensive movie collection, and it's all free! They have quite a few Criterion Collection DVDs, which are pretty fun to watch.

Mostly flea markets and yard and garage sales. I love to search for old out of print vhs tapes!
Netflix. Since I got my Blu-ray player that streams their free movies and TV shows directly to my TV, I'm in heaven!
Also, the free on-demand section of my cable service. I can get lots of horror movies from FearNet and lots of art movies from Sundance and IFC. Works great, add in a few Mill Creek 50 packs and the occasionally DVD purchase and I'm never at a loss.
Pretty much just Amazon and Hastings.
I'm pretty happy with my collection right now.. when the need arises to see something else it's usually an obscure title, and I'll take a trip out to SE Portland to Movie Madness, where they specialize in that kind of stuff.
Although, now that I have a Blu-Ray player I'll be buying a flick or two this weekend. I was hoping for Heavy Metal and Night Of The Living Dead but they aren't available yet.
Netflix is good although it dosent have:
The Warrior and the Sorceress
The Sword and the Sorcerer
Deathstalker (missing all)
The Barbarian Brothers
Gor (missing both)
Ator flicks (ok, missing only 3)
Yor, the Hunter from the Future
(it seems to be missing many other "B" Movies from the Fantasy Genre of the 1980/1990's :bluesad: )
Otherwise Netflix has been sweet... (I like to know whom to talk to about the missing movies)
I also own a few Mills Creek movies sets and would use Ebay if necessary... although, I did pick up The Silent Screem from a "horror store" in Chicago :)
I buy all my movies used from Amazon. I've got a DVD recorder, so I'll quite often check what's on TCM, AMC, IFC, FMC and Sy-Fy to see if there's anything worth recording in the middle of the night. I've been thinking of getting Netflix, but it's one of those major life decisions that I need to ponder for another year or two. I could stream Netflix movies to my PS3 for $9 a month - which would be awesome! - but the kids are always on the internet or playing online video games in the evening, so I seriously doubt there would be any bandwidth left to stream a movie.
I buy 80-90% of my DVDs from Deep Discount DVD. I buy the other 10-20% from either Best Buy or other online retailers. I've never rented a DVD in my entire life . . . not one. I don't think I'd be able to "let go" and send them back. I don't use DVR or any other kind of recording devices because I don't watch a whole lot of TV other than sports and I like to watch sports "live" or not at all.

Yeah, Netflix will not have almost anything that's out of print (I know SWORD & THE SORCERER and the DEATHSTALKER series are out of print). There's no one to talk to about the missing movies, they aren't going to buy used copies of rare DVDs that would probably mysteriously disappear in the mail when they rented them.
The funny thing is, in this day and age of digital distribution, there's little reason for anything to go totally out of print. It's cheap as hell to either burn DVDs on demand or offer copies for digital download. In my view, all the copyright holders who aren't exploiting their movies in this environment are losing out on a little bit of cash for no particular reason. No reason to sit around waiting for a perfect licensing/distribution deal.

I rent a lot of my new releases from the corner variety store, or pay-per-view on the satellite dish. I've got a Zip.ca (Canadian equivalent of Netflix) account, and they have just about anything I go looking for. And for the titles not available by any other means, there's always torrents. To facilitate watching, I've got an old PC hooked up to the TV, with its own remote control. I can sit in my rec room and watch any streaming video I want, such as TV episodes, I can play movies from any hard drive in the house, and I can play movies on DVD or a thumb drive. It's great, and it cost next to nothing.
I usually just buy my DVDs new in shops like HMV Fopp or ASDA. I ocasionally purchase second hand disks in a couple of shops in Glasgow.
