It seems that the SCI FI Channel is only showing the last few seasons of MST3K. Are the ever going to show any of the older episodes with Joel? Do they only have the rights to the ones produced by their own network? If they just keep repeating the same 3 seasons, the show will lose ratings and be taken off the air.
And yes I do know that they are not making any new episodes. Last episode was with the movie Diabolic.
Anybody know anything about this title, was offered in trade, can't find any info. Thanks this would be a big help. & This is Cool!
T
well, they can't show the earlier episodes because they NEVER owned them. Seasons 1-7 were produced and shown on Comedy Central, not the Sci-Fi Channel. Only seasons 8-10 were made for the Sci-Fi Channel, and they've never shown any interest in obtaining the rights for the rest of the series from Comedy Central. It'd cost too much. First, they'd have to pay Comedy for the rights, Best Brain for the rights, AND all the owners of the films for the rights.
That's what I was afraid of. I figured it had something to do with the legal rights to the show.
Sci-Fi never really appreciated what they had with MST. It's the only good original program they have ever produced. It was speculated that they were going to stop running reruns on Saturdays at 9 AM (thanks a lot, Sci-Fi, I didn't enjoy sleeping in) last December, but thankfully it's still on. Better get to taping these shows, they may stop transmitting from the SOL any time now.

Farscape is great but I don't think they produce it

That is the weirdest time slot for a show like that. It's 7:00 in the morning for me. MST3K is much better as a late night show
The thing is, they don't even show that many episodes from the two seasons that they do own the rights too. Maybe it's me, but they seem to show the same 5 or so episodes over and over. I've been waiting forever, it feels like, for them to show Jack Frost again.
I agree, it is a weird timeslot, and they DO seem to keep repeating shows. I wish there was something to be done; do you think TV stations actually listen to petitions?
Satellite News (http://www.mst3kinfo.com/satnews/index.html) has a listing of episodes that will continue to be shown--and those that are probably not going to be shown ever again.
Why? Perhaps some "rights" issue--I have read that many of the movies (especially the Universal B&Ws) have reverted back to the original studios, and the MST3K parodies are now a no-no. True or not, that sucks. (On the other hand, I'm pretty sure no one gives a damn about retaining the rights to Manos or Invasion of the Neptune Men...)
Below, Flangepart has a message about scarfing up the series on VHS or DVD. Haven't tried them myself, but Flangepart's a long-time contributor to this board, and I trust him.
Satellite News also has a kick-ass Final Season Episode Guide, and check out the April 02 News item on the main page for an update on Bill Rebane.
As the guy before me mentioned, the website www.mst3kinfo.com has all the information anyone would ever want to know about the show, and it's airing episodes and times on Saturdays. It was most recently said that they will continue airing the show through January 2003!! Yay!! That's the good news. The bad news is listed on the link given by the guy before. It shows the episodes most likely not going to be shown again. I personally have a few that I would kill to see again. Namely Jack Frost and Puma Man. Those are but mere glimpses in my mind as I haven't seen them in ages. While they claim to only be showing the ones listed in the website, I have a feeling a number of the older ones will show up again. After all, they own the rights to them. I remember not too long ago when the constantly showed "Killer Bees" over and over and over again, and I wished they would stop showing that episode and they did. And they haven't shown it since... but I know they have it, because I have seen it many times. I am just waiting for them to start showing the older ones again. I really hope it is soon though. Oh, and by the way, I have a LOT of the episodes on tape. If you want to, e-mail me, and ask me for an episode. If I have it, I can copy it for you. I don't have all of them (only season 8-10, and then, only the ones they have shown recently), but I do have a lot of them. So, just e-mail me if you are in need of seeing a certain episode, and I will be more than happy to help out a fellow Mstie...
-p.s.
I have Space Mutiny in the un-Mst3k'd form!! I have a few movies from the show in the original form.
-Laserblast
-The Indestructible Man
-ZaAt
-Space Mutiny
Just to name a few... But, unfortunately, the FBI says I can't copy them (*wink*). Just e-mail me if you want an original (*wink*) copy.
