I just finished watching GRAVE OF THE VAMPIRE which I've not sat through for many years (it's available on youtube in 10 parts) a film which I describe as a regular non-nutritive box 'o bonbons. Here's a few more of those really bad 1970s Horror movies that I enjoy:
GRAVE OF THE VAMPIRE (1974)
DEATHDREAM (1974 aka DEAD OF NIGHT)
CHILDREN SHOULDN'T PLAY WITH DEAD THINGS (1973)
DEAD PEOPLE (1973 aka MESSIAH OF EVIL)
SILENT NIGHT, BLOODY NIGHT (1974)
THE DARK (1979)
THE MANITOU (1978)
BLACULA (1972)
COUNT YORGA, VAMPIRE (1970)
HOUSE OF SEVEN CORPSES (1974)
What are some 1970s BAD HORROR MOVIES you LOVE with absolutely no (or little) redeeming value??
EDIT: If the movie is GOOD, and perhaps has redeeming value, g'head, chat away!!
Would ya consider Flesh Feast (1970) to be one?

It's very sad that William Girdler died so young in a helicopter accident... He did understand horror and his first movie Three on a Meathook (1972) inspired The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974) [although I believe he never seen the credit] He gave us such films as Abby (1974), Grizzly (1976), Day of the Animals (1977) and The Manitou (1978) all great films from the 1970's... Sometimes I'd wonder if he was still alive how much Horror would of changed in the 1980's... I do believe [because he did Manitou] William Girdler would be directing Poltergeist (1982) and Tobe Hooper would finish Venom (1981)

We can certainly talk about
good movies in this thread; I'll even doctor the thread title if it eases your discomfit a bit. For example, I think
BLACK CHRISTMAS is a good movie, which I have mentioned. A movie may also be "good" but "bad" for you...
Good... Bad... The difference is what mainstream thinks... lol
Most of the movies listed were very good to fun so I thought Black Magic fits... I also think anybody that likes "Kill Bill" will find Black Magic so much better [as we as many Shaw Brothers movies]... Oh! Quentin Tarantino the 90's is so over... The schoolgirl in Kill Bill reminds me of the psycho girl in Louis Gossett Jr's The Punisher (hehe)... really nothing super new... although the one in The Punisher was so much better ~ actually I really like the 1989 version more then the 2000 movie (rambling like an old man)

THE WEREWOLF VS. THE VAMPIRE WOMAN (1971 aka LA NOCHE DE WALPURGIS ~ stars PAUL NASCHY)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRmT5h8dUvg
Wish I could find a clip on youtube of THE VAMPIRE PEOPLE a Philippine movie mess which is either 1964 or 1966 (and Sinister Cinema's dvd is in my Amazon cart) but I first saw it late night in the early 1970s probably on the CBS Late Movie... mississippigoddam was that wonderfully bad!!!
TOMBS OF THE BLIND DEAD (1971 ~ LA NOCHE DEL TERROR CIEGO) I'd probably love this film, and its lesser sequel (both of which I own) for the incredible cheeze factor, implausibility, great atmosphere, and revolting exploitation, but it still resonates as one of the worst internet forum experiences I've had. I had posted a mocking criticism that'd be welcomed on this site, but at that forum I was insulted personally by a member and subsequently criticized by the webmaster (a good guy and member of this site - who doesn't post much) to which I responded by throwing down the gauntlet challenging all comers (big mistake on my part) and was subsequently thrown off of the now defunct Scifilm forum. Those boys just did not want to hear how rotten this movie is... and it is rotten!! I was later reinstated at Scifilm, but that had stung. If you haven't seen TOMBS OF THE BLIND DEAD and love bad movies, this might be the KING of bad movies:

You got kicked of SciFi forum! Yer my hero!!!
Oh- I got banned from the Stomp Toyko BMMB board-and I dont know why! I musta insulted some self important geek...
Strangely I don't recall you being banned AHD?! I do remember a few times you butted heads with a few different posters (myself included) but I didn't know you were actually banned.
Anyways a few others 70s films I really enjoy:

Theatre of Blood
IN my humble opinion-THEATRE of BLOOD is Vinnie's best film.

Yes, and resinstated. History now. However, I do find Badmovies much more democratic.
Phantom Of The Paradise is one goofy, funny movie. :teddyr:
Theater Of Blood is great.. even though Diana Rigg is really not that great an actress.. I agree she was pretty and perfect for The Avengers but she's a bit hammy, in a bad way. What surprised me about Theater Of Blood, was that it was possibly the most gory film I'd seen Vinny appear in!
Speaking of VINCENT PRICE, my own favorite is THE ABOMINABLE DR. PHIBES (1971):

A film I just reviewed: Pete Walker's FRIGHTMARE! Good flick about a cannibalistic granny.

I really had fun with the bloody CRIMINALLY INSANE aka CRAZY FAT ETHEL (1975)

Surprisingly good vampire movie based on the old soaper-HOUSE OF DARK SHADOWS!
HOUSE OF DARK SHADOWS is one of my all time favorite films - I always forget to mention it because I don't look at VHS tapes very often - and I do have
HOUSE OF DARK SHADOWS on VHS - it's not available on DVD!!! How is this injustice possible!?!

Russell ~ I was just thinking after seeing that poster: if they can release Pete Walker's
Frightmare, why not
House of the Long Shadows?
Actually, they have released "House of Long Shadows," as I have it on VHS, but I presume Trevor means on dvd. Yes, it'd be nice before Christopher Lee passes away. Vincent Price, Shelia Keith, Peter Cushing, and John Carradine are dead, so it'd be nice to have a dvd version with Christopher Lee talking about how it was to work with his co-stars.
Peter Walker is apparently still living, too. So, it'd be nice to get an audio commentary on Walker's thoughts about working with those stars.
Hmm.. I've never seen House Of The Long Shadows. What a cast, though!

the DARK-good lawdy . I OWN that movie! Sadder....I LIKE it!!!! And if it stars Paul Naschy-I'll watch it!
sadder yet...I like some of the crappiest movies from the 70's ever made! And watched lotsa them at the old Strand theater! Loved every second. Theres nothing like watching a cheap OMEN rip off-
like CATHYS CURSE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QpNbw9V8clo
I liked Cathys Curse BETTER! THATS how sick I am!
I've had this for
years and didn't even realize it! I have this one on a 50 movie pack; I started watching it last night, but got sleepy - it is pretty bad and weird - but I need to see the rest of this...! I also have
DEEP RED! I hadn't realized I had that one too! Heh heh heh!
Oh, I watched
JavaKoala's favorite:
BLOOD MANIA... uhm there's not much blood or mania (there is that one great moment)... lots of shapely bare bosomed gals... I wonder why this is
JavaKoala's favorite??
Ha ha ha! I just saw "Hausu" (House) at a theater in NW Portland with my sister last night. Unbelievably stupid, pointless and cheesy Japanese haunted house flick. We were doubled over laughing. Pretty much wall-to-wall with WTF moments. Hilarious!
What could be said to be redeeming of these films?
TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE (1974) A masterpiece, I think.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=285ImXTYdsg
EDIT: Trailers removed, so I've swept up the thread.
Essential to your education of offense, LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT (1972) with a perfect trailer and a film I despise:
THE HILLS HAVE EYES (1977) ...I think I hate this one too, but at least it's more movielike.
PHANTASM (1979)
LET'S SCARE JESSICA TO DEATH (1971)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cX4eZD3GiL0&feature=related
Three I would list are:
Equinox(1970) - Herb Tarlak and friends go on a picnic in Hellstone State Park where Ranger Smith is the Devil is best way to sum it up. Fun to watch and has some cheesy effects but not bad for a film based off a student film.
Night of the Lepus - This is the film which made me a lover of bad movies. Dr. McCoy and Janet Leigh fight giant killer bunnies in the American Southwest. The whole idea of killer bunnies always makes me laugh, especially since I own a pet rabbit.
The Devil's Rain - It's got Shatner in it. Also Oliver Wendell Douglas and the sheriff from Picket Fences fight Quinton McHale and his forces of Hell which include Anton LeVay and John Travolta (in Travolta's feature film debut). Also apparently the forces of Satan melt like wax to a flame in a rain storm. Plus there is a brief appearance by Ida Lupino. The film can be hard to watch but has a lot of cheese in it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxxdiNtHlz0
Another amazing good slasher film.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glPd9D70Eb0
I really like this movie, too...
CARRIE (1976)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJe0iVo8y3A
Don't Open The Door by the awesome S.F. Brownrigg.
Killdozer! Stephen King+ killer machines=awesome cheesy movie! :bouncegiggle: But seriously, it's a good movie
Roller Boogie (1979)- not as bad as Xanadu, but extremely BORING and the dialog sounds like it was written by a 5 year old. :bouncegiggle: but has no redeeming factors at all!

This is the best part of the whole movie:

Well I just watched The Satanic Rites of Dracula to kick the Halloween season off. It's kind of a Dracula meets James Bond without James Bond. I also like:
Captain Kronos Vampire Hunter
Carrie
Alien
Wicker Man
Blacula(Yup)
Who Slew Auntie Roo?
Halloween
Dawn of the Dead
Abomidable Dr. Phibes
Beast Must Die
Horror Express
Vampire Circus
Kingdom of the Spider
Empire of the Ants
And of course on TV I loved the entire Night Stalker series.
Beyond The Door absolutely petrified me as a kid, and as a bandwagon film, and perhaps the most famous of the Exorcist ripoffs, gets good mention.
Local NY stations would run the commercial just a 10 o' clock when kids had to go to bed. And we all were affected by that nice little question that Juliet Mills gets to ask in this little scene:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hAtw8S2nfk&feature=related
Low budget, yes. But a true feeling of evil pervaded the possession scenes and made it a truly brooding and atmospheric film.
Other faves of mine:
Horror High aka "The Twisted Brain"
Tombs Of The Blind Dead and it's sequels
Lucio Fulci's films, namely Zombie 2 and House By The Cemetery
Let Sleeping Corpses Lie aka Don't Open The Window
Tales From The Crypt and The Vault Of Horror
Superstition (early 80's Italian movie.)
and many many more!
A Lizard in a Woman's Skin

The Red Queen Kills Seven Times
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dy-Y-MIW1lE
My Dear Killer

It's been mentioned but Hell House is one of my fondest memories from childhood. I loved that movie and it freaked the hell out of me.
I re-read the novel and then re-saw the movie recently and I realized how much they dumbed-down the book for the movie. All the little quirks the characters had were gone in favor of the more 2-dimensional characterization. Still, not a bad haunted house movie.
Few more...

Slaughter Hotel ~ I think I'm making my wife a Klaus Kinski expert... :)

Simon: King of the Witches ~ I really like this story it does a good job in justify the mysteries of 'witchcraft.'

Werewolves on Wheels ~ very cleaver made witch movie... saddly I wish this was about Werewolves (ok there is a werewolf in the story)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yg_L5inZQiE
The Night of the Sorcerers ~ Incredible movie I think it was made 5 years too early, no nudes, although in 5 years the woman would be your typical Chubby Italian Hippies... I do like the idea that all the female vampires happen to have the same native leopard skin bikinis.
