But in all seriousness I do feel the clean air and water act was a good piece of legislation, not from an environmental standpoint but a public health standpoint. It has helped immensely with improving drinking water and the quality of air in my area. I was told before I was born it wasn't uncommon for Holland to get a nice dose of smog from Gary, Indiana every other day. It's a shame that some companies are now trying to ignore this legislation.
I believe we need to start having severe CRIMINAL penalties for deliberate acts of dangerous pollution. Civil is NOT ENOUGH. If you poison and kill 10 people, or cause 20 women to miscarry and get cancer, I think death is a more appropriate punishment than a fine.
That's one area where China gets it right.
