Title: The Rats Are Coming! The Werewolves Are Here!

It's a typical borning story thats unintentionally unborning (the movie is loaded with silly mistakes, bad soap opera dialogue, people wearing the same clothing, chickens flying in the background, lots of WTF?, logic tosses out the window and a Beast merchent selling rats) Warning this movie is only for the bad movie lover, gothic horror fans say away from this movie!

I actually thought The Company of Wolves (1984) was one of those early takes on a Werewolf family. Typically a werewolf movie is about a guy (or girl) either just bitten or running from the curse and The Company of Wolves develop a werewolf sociality from its story (at least the earlest I thought) until I was watching The Rats Are Coming! The Werewolves Are Here! (1972) which is about a werewolf family keeping a secret. I dont want to give Rats are Coming credit for starting the werewolf sociality so I wonder where this started?

I just watched this a few weeks ago.  I have it on a double feature DVD with Milligan's BLOODTHIRSTY BUTCHERS.  I hadn't seen it in many years.  Typical Andy Milligan nonsense (which means great late-night viewing!)

His movies make my head hurt, but in a way that I like.

I've always loved the title, and I like a lot of the inane dialogue in this film. The rat merchant takes the cake for weirdness. Its a bit dull, and not a lot happens, but the essential theme of the werewolf family is an interesting one explored in a very mundane way. This is a film I could only recommend to bad movie lovers.

Haha! :bouncegiggle:

According to IMDb Trivia Andy Milligan had troubles getting rid of the rats after production finished.  So they made an ad campaign to get rid of the rats by giving one free live rat to theatregoers of the film...

No idea if that's entirely true or not, but still.  I'd go for that, if nothing else.  (Though it does look like a pretty entertaining movie...) :teddyr:

lol... actually I had to look at that trivia a second time after the movie... I'm not sure but I doubt there was more then 10 rats in the additional footage...

Although the dialogue is insane... Psycho girl wants to buy rats from "Beast" merchent... He tells her that the Rats are raised to eat human flesh and ate part of his face... Psycho girl takes rats home with her and one bits her finger, so she returns back asking for a refund because she didnt expect the rats to bit???????(Hello!!! He said "the rats ate part of his face")??????????... (talk about insane)

If you watch it you'll see chickens flying around from the background, because of an odd closeup we are not told where they are until later in the film... but its funny!!!

The trailer said the killer rats were back.  Was this a sequal to something?

Looking at imdb, I see someone mentioing that the original running time was 72 mins. The producer wanted more footage, and WILLARD was popular at the time so 20 more minutes of rat footage was filmed to capitalize on that.

Ozzymandias speaks: Hope Stansbury, who played the psycho Monica Mooney (Get it, they're werewolves and their name is Mooney) is a real estate agent in New Mexico now. Monica ranks up there with Carrie and Evelyn of Play Misty For Me as one of the great unhinged women of the 70s movies.

Ozzymandias has spoken!!!

If this movie isn't bad enough, I just ordered Milligan's THE MAN WITH TWO HEADS . . .
