I saw this one when I was a kid, the details may be a bit sketchy.
It's a sci-fi space movie from the mid to late 70's about a totalitarian government that rules over the galaxy. The main villain is this guy in a black cape and helmet, and you can always hear him breathing behind the mask, even when he's talking. There's this young man name Sky-something who finds these two robots, one is gold-colored and the other looks like a round-topped trashcan and beeps alot. I think he meets some old guy who used to be a big deal in the past and the old man convinces him to rescue some chick from the bad guys. There's a gigantic space station that looks like a planet, some cool space battles, and these badass weapons that are like swords except instead of metal blades they have laser beams. Actually the special effects were pretty impressive for the time.
I'm stumped. Any ideas?
It isn't April Fools day yet,is it?
"Star Odyssey," without a doubt.
Or possibly "Ice Pirates."

There's a Japanese movie called "The Hidden Fortress" which is very similar to your film, FJ.
Other than that, it could be Space Mutiny but I'm not sure.
Okay, this was a joke that RCMerchant seemed to get. Unless, of course, the rest of you are joking back, which which case, good on ya.
I was decribing Star Wars Episode 4 as if it were a film I has seen years ago and couldn't quite remember all of it. Come on, folks.
I would say that everyone understood the joke. Trevor definitely understood it, considering his response of "The Hidden Fortress."

I certainly enjoyed it ~ that's why I gave you +1 karma. I read the thread and said "Damn, this sounds familiar but I can't quite place it." :teddyr:

Yes, done out of a moment of boredom.
Some years back-in the "What is this film ?" section-I think it was Andrew and Menard (miss you-buddy!), posted a description of FRIDAY the 13th Part 3-and I guessed every single movie I could...but,of course, not the most obvious choice-on April Fools Day! :bouncegiggle:
Great joke :bouncegiggle:
I never watched Star Wars :bluesad: and knew the answer straight away.
