I feel like I am being driven insane by the following situation. I digitized some movies on iTunes but I can't get all the ones I want because they're not available.
Whenever I buy VHS or DVD tapes, I always end up selling them or giving them away because there is always a dent, scratch, or goo mark on each individual box.
I was thinking of just buying new stuff and using goo gone to get off the goo. I also looked into a tool called the Xipper that is not out yet that would scratch the sticker and slice it evenly so that there would be no need to rip off the sticker. I can almost do all right with dents and scratches as long as there's no sticky stuff left behind.
I also considered storing all my DVDs in a CD wallet, but then there are VHS tapes which can't be stored in a similar wallet. Furthermore, I would feel bad about tossing out all the cases because then I like own an incomplete DVD. It's OCD people.
I am considering storing all DVD cases and VHS tapes in a big clear box.
I just always toss them when I see a whole bunch of ugly cases with dents, scratches, and goo stuff on the shelf. It doesn't look neat, or clean, or controllable.
Please no flames about being OCD. I'm only looking for solutions.

You can buy replacement DVD cases at most stores like K-mart, Walmart, etc. Or go to an online store and do a search on "dvd cases". Amazon costs a lot compared to the stuff I find locally though, and the shipping is expensive.

Just take the artwork from the original box and transfer it to the brand new one.
As far as the security labels on the DVD's you buy, I use an Xacto knife and cut the labels down the center along the seam of the box. They're much easier to peel off that way.

I'm pretty obsessive about organizing my DVDs and I'm super picky about the condition of the discs themselves (unless I buy them used, then I expect some scratches 'n' stuff).
I just store mine on a series of bookshelves lining the walls in a spare bedroom. I hate that adhesive goo too, but I find if you wait a few weeks and then rub it with your thumb, it tends to come off (for the most part).
Shelves, and I categorize them semi-alphabetically (putting series of movies in release order if they've got the same title, such as with the Harry Potter movies). If I have an original and its remake, the original goes first. If I have two movies with the same name (Bug, for instance), then I put the one that released first first.
I dream of the day of having a movie dungeon where I can store all the movies, books, and video games I want without having to be badgered about how they're taking up space. :teddyr:

This is pretty much how I do it too.
Which stickers are you talking about? The ones on the tops underneath the cellophane rap, and sometimes on the bottom and sides? I just use a very thin pen knife to slowly and carefully cut along the groove of the clamshell, neatly severing the sticker. Then slowly peel it up and off. Almost always comes up totally clean with a little practice.
The MOST annoying is when you get cellophane that somehow has like.. Melted, or merged, with the spine of the DVD box. Drives me nuts.
Slightly unrelated, but this is one thing Nintendo got TOTALLY right on Wii and DS boxes. THERE ARE NO STICKERS, AND THAT STUPID STICKING/MELTING CRAP DOESN'T HAPPEN.
