RIP

The lady was a real class act, from what I knew of her.

Sorry to hear this. She was relatively young, and as akiratubo notes, a real class act.

She was really hilarious in Designing Women. The episode where she gets her head stuck in the staircase at the governor's mansion right before a big ball was a particularly fine bit by the stoic Carter.

Too bad.  I always thought she was great in Designing Women.  I also have to admit I find it pretty funny in retrospect that I grew up watching that show in its original run, since it ended in 1993 (in other words, I was watching the show when I was aged 7-10, and I actually found it funny).  To the best of my recollection, it's the only female-oriented sitcom I've enjoyed.  And Carter was a big part of that.

Class act does sum her up very well.  She was also still active - in film, television, the stage.  Just too bad.
