This is a variation on the Twilight Zone where the ventriloquist dummy talks back. It's pretty random but also entertaining and it stars none other than Anthony Hopkins. I either missed it or it wasn't on tv when I was growing up but if it had I would have seen it dozens of times.

Hopkins does card tricks but bombs in his big nightclub debut so he reinvents himself as a ventriloquist card tricker. He has huge success but becomes schizophrenic....or does the doll really have a mind of it's own??  Someone figured that Twilight Zone episode would make a pretty good horror movie and they were right. Ann Margaret is likeable and hot as the love interest. I like when Hopkins returns to the small (upstate NYC?) town he grew up in even though he has a british accent. They obviously dubbed the dolls voice in later unless Hopkins himself really is a completely amazing ventriloquist.

solid 4/5 more entertaining and moves more quickly than alot of movies I and others go on about

Not a bad movie.  I like it a lot better now than I did the first time I saw it during its theatrical run.  I also recommend you also read William Goldman's novel.  It blows the movie away.
