I watched this one after I got in from karate last night, and man was it fun! John Rhys-Meyers is an earnest young diplomat with aspirations to intelligence work, and John Travolta is a one-man wrecking crew of a CIA agent whom Meyers is assigned to escort around Paris as they try to run down a complex conspiracy involving drugs and terrorism. This is a pure testosterone flick at its best, with car chases, explosions, gunplay, witty verbal banter, and John Travolta chewing up the landscape as the most obnoxious and deadly CIA agent ever! After the heavy and dark sentiments of THE ROAD, this was a bundle of thoroughly enjoyable, pure cinematic excess.
I also enjoyed this one. I did think as the focus switched to the non-Travolta character (can't remember name or the actor, he was unmemorable) the film did become less fun. But, it was still a thouroughly ridiculous and quite enjoyable ride.
7/10
I took my nephews to see this when it was in theaters and we all enjoyed it. I though the ending could have been better, but the action scenes were very entertaining.
Good ol' Luc Besson, he's always entertaining. I think he also wrote "Taken". Maybe he'll cook up something where Bryan Mills and Charlie Wax team up to take out whatever is left of Paris.
LOVED this flick. It was a big surprise when I got around to renting it. Its a dude film, through and through. I thought the action was fantastic and Travolta really took his part to the perfect level.
***SPOILERS***
If you watch it, you really do see how much of a "guy" film it is. Basically, the moral is to never trust women. All you need is your guy buddies cause women just want to kill you. Does it get more testosterone that that!?
You can trust Mrs. Jones.
