Has there been a character in a movie, TV show or book that seems to live comfortably but you wonder how they got all the stuff they have? For example Pee Wee Herman in Pee Wee's Big Adventure. He had a house, toys, etc but spends several weeks chasing down his bike without ever alerting an employer.
OZZIE NELSON on "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet" famously had no discernable job (he joked he was a "brain surgeon" at least once) though I thought I always understood the pretext, which I've since learned was correct, that OZZIE's job was in fact the producing, directing, and writing of his family's very long running TV show within which he appeared to have no job.
I didn't watch the show, but I've been told none of the cast of Friends seem to have any occupations.

Actually, they all had jobs.
Ross was a paleontologist.
Chandler was an accountant.
Joey was an actor.
Rachel was a retail buyer.
Monica was a chef/caterer.
Phoebe was a street performer.
However, I do confess they spend very little time doing any of these things and days can go by where they seem to sit around all day.
I'm more bothered by say Higgins from Magnum P.I. The millionaire with a military background but no information on how they got said money. Seems like a cop out when you need to explain something.
I've recently become hooked on Sanctuary with Amanda Tapping.
I know she runs the (supposedly) USA/Canada Sanctuary but where does the money come from to hire helicopters and feed the Abnormals and buy weapons and pay the electricity bill of that enormous mansion?
