People enjoy compiling lists, there's no purpose beyond that. You can comment on anyone's choices if you feel like it.

I like that when we make these lists there're no arguments (I guess questions or comments would be nice, though). We just pick stuff until we've hit 100.
24. Aguirre, the Wrath of God (1972)

I'm going to do everybody a favor and print the list up until now: hopefully this will cut down on repeats. I made a few comments as well.
1. FIGHT CLUB - I can see it on a top 100 list.
2. THE GODFATHER - obviously belongs.
3. THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY - my choice.
4. A BETTER TOMORROW - interesting; it's not even my favorite John Woo film, but I can see it.
5. BRAZIL - nice choice
6. THE WAGES OF FEAR - this film is great! It seems to me it's often overlooked. Good choice!
7. SCARFACE - I can see it.
8. A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS - my choice.
9. NOSFERATU (1922) - definitely.
10. TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD - would be hard to leave it off.
11. IN BRUGES - haven't seen it yet, have heard great things.
12. SCHINDLER'S LIST - great pick!
13. CASABLANCA - obviously.
14. THE WIZARD OF OZ - my pick
15. THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON - this is the one I have the most trouble with being top 100, but the monster sure is iconic
16. THE HUSTLER - agreed.
17. THE EXORCIST - agreed.
18. 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY - my pick.
19. MULHOLLAND DRIVE - believe it or not I haven't seen this yet. It came out when I was mad at Lynch.
20. AMERICAN BEAUTY - everyone seems to love this movie but I have to admit I'm not sure why. To me it's good, not great
21. VERTIGO - my pick
22. HEAVENLY CREATURES - interesting pick, I liked the movie but I'm not sure it's top 100 material (to me)
23. BULLY - haven't seen it.
24. AGUIRRE, THE WRATH OF GOD - a very special movie, this one probably belongs
25. APOCALYPSE NOW - obviously
26. ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST - my pick.
27. One flew over the cuckoo's nest
28. Superman: The Movie.

That's OK, unusual choices are part of what this exercise is about.

Quote4. A BETTER TOMORROW - interesting; it's not even my favorite John Woo film, but I can see it.
I think I'm pretty unusual in the west in that it is my favorite Woo film. What's interesting to me is that Chinese critics almost unanimously put A Better Tomorrow as his best work. For example, the Hong Kong film awards list it as the second best Chinese film EVER, behind Spring in A Small Town. Over here, of course, it's usually the Killer which is put up top. The Killer is my third favorite Woo film, behind Bullet in the Head. I'm not quite sure what puts me more in tune with ABT, but I love all three films, and all three would make it in a personal top 100.

My guess is that ABT is viewed as sort of the Chinese equivalent of GODFATHER/GOODFELLAS, but Western audiences miss a lot of the dramatic nuances. Like most Americans, I guess I find it easier to respond to the straight-out action of THE KILLER/HARD-BOILED.

Not really. It's been called episodes after the digital remaster remakes from the 1990's [Hmmm... anther reason why I hate the 1990's]... actually the first generation star wars fans call Star Wars (1977) Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back (1980) Emprie Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi (1983) the Return of the Muppets or Muppets strike back! PS most first generation fans dont like the digital mustache.
It's the second and third generation that calls them episodes.

Lots, maybe even most, people think that way. I've never bought it. I think the best you could say is that it's equal to STAR WARS. But I prefer SW because it's a self contained story, and because it was a new universe totally built from scratch. They really didn't even have to make a sequel, it could have stood alone.
