Title: Funny Reactions From Other People during Bad Movies
Post by: InformationGeek on July 04, 2010, 09:34:15 AM
I was watching Cave Dwellers (MST3K verison) with my dad last night and it got up to the point where Ator flew with the hanglider.  I glanced at dad to see what he thought and he looked completely baffled by this.  It sort of looked like his face was saying "WTF?" and it was hilarious.

As that ever happened with your friends or family?  Have you seen a bad movie with them and notice a hiliarous reaction from them during a scene?  Sometimes, it is just gold!

my dad and I once watched LUST IN THE DUST on cable. To my great surprise he loved it. He asked me if I knew of any other movies with "that funny fat gal" (Divine).

The only one at the local video store was FEMALE TROUBLE-

The cost of the rental: Two bucks
The look on his face during the trash dump scene: Priceless!

My friend fell asleep about 7 minutes into DOOMSDAY, amused me quite a bit considering the way that movie tried to present itself as the most action-packed thing ever.

I'm such a horrible friend that I show Manos to all of them.

Generally, my kids sit and stare at me until I turn the movie off.   :bluesad:

When I screen films as part of our outreach to the community program, I have the habit of sitting in the audience and about 15 minutes before the film starts, the other projectionist drops the sound and I stand up and talk to the audience, telling them who I am, what I do and what the Archives can do for them.

When I do this, some of their expressions really make me  :bouncegiggle: as they really don't expect a member of the audience to stand up and start chatting to them. One lady in 2007 asked me to sit the hell down because she wanted to see the film.  :buggedout: :buggedout:

Two I can think of, in the theater.

John Travolta speaks with the worst Southern accent ever at the beginning of The General's Daughter.  When he started talking like that, a woman in front of me said, "Oh, my GOD."

After the abrupt, horribly s**tty ending to The International, a woman behind me said, "That's it?  You've got to be kidding."  A man on the other side of the theater said, "That was the worst f**king movie I've ever seen."

There was a lot of incredulous laughter during the part in Splice where Adrian Brody ..ahem..."bonds"...with the mutant, gene-spliced creature thingie(Hey she was hot!) That, and the scene where he tries to teach her to dance were not to be believed. Everyone laughed except one woman who must have been genuinely moved by those scenes because she sighed very loudly at our immaturity.

Preyliens: Alien Predators - I don't remember how but I managed to get my mother to watch this once when she was over for dinner. Most of what I'd shown her in the past was watchable in her opinion so it really got the jump on her. the moment the space bounty hunter, a guy in a paintball helmet and suit carrying a painted neft gun, appeared, her face just lost all emotion.

Fifteen minutes in: "Are those fighting hand puppets?"

I spent the whole time with this not undeserved grin on my face from being able to share my pain with someone else. It backfired at one point when the already dismal Polonian writing fell completely.

"And remember that tree I was by when first you came upon me?"
Mom: "...when first you came upon me? Did they just say that?"

To this day she uses that line against me at the weirdest times.

That happened at the showing I went to! I was p**sed the heck off with them all. Geez, show a little class, I bet they giggle at underwear commercials. Nothing can ruin a movie quite like an audience that doesn't know how to react to it. Like the guy who laughed his butt off during Fracture

Whenever my dad watches MST3K with me, he's stunned that I'm laughing.  He can't believe I get half the 20-year old pop culture references that I do.

And I was feeling bad letting my dad watch a John Waters movie!  :bouncegiggle:

About a decade or so ago, me and my family had some friends staying over. Anyways bored one evening I came across Elvira, Mistress of the Dark on TV and was soon splitting my gut laughing  :bouncegiggle: at all the double entendres when I suddenly noticed all the guests, all women in their 40s and older, giving me strange looks - looks that said how could you possibly find that funny? All they actually had to say though was "Well, she sure is well-endowed, isn't she?"  :bouncegiggle:

When the closing credits came up at the end of Fast and Furious 4, I stood up, pointed at the screen, and shouted at the movie.  Man, I told that movie exactly what I thought of it and what it could go do with itself.

People around me got up and hurried out of the theater.

I actually thought the trailer was better than the movie itself.

I remember watching King Kong when it came out around '76, in the theater.

All shot up, Kong falls all the way from the top of the World Trade Tower, with a resounding THUD!

The theater is silent.

Some wiseacre pipes up-

"Do you think he's hurt?"

Everyone cracks up. It was like the original MST moment.

One night in college I showed a couple of the girls "Re-animator".  The classic scene of the headless orally pleasing the living was met with squeals, screams, covered eyes, and shouts "You show the weirdest most horrible movies ever".  They never let me pick what movie to see again.  Some people just don't have an appreciation for this like others I guess.

haha, don't know if these are classified as bad movies, but Antichrist comes to mind! Also, Irreversable, not necessarily funny, but it definitely gets a reaction..

I was at a film club screening where we were watching some shoestring budget vampire flick. It wasn't terrible (what little we could make of it, anyway; the sound quality was so bad that we could only catch a few snatches of the dialogue here and there.) What little of the plot we could piece together wasn't all that bad until the main vampiress announced that she was a descendant of Dracula. Well, that was enough for this guy sitting a couple of rows ahead of me. The carnivorous plants, the vampires, the slow pacing; he could take those. But suddenly introducing a Dracula thing in the last 20 minutes of the movie? No way.

So he stood up, pointed at the movie, screamed "BULLSH*T!" and threw a plastic knife at the screen.

Kudos to the organizers for giving us all plastic cutlery to throw during the screening; otherwise that moment wouldn't have been half as awesome and funny to witness.

My friend and I were watching "The Toxic Avenger" and all throughout the movie (especially during the dumb moments) he kept clutching his head whilst mumbling: "My brain...it hurts....it hurts".
