I'm going to be painting a model kit of the bat rat spider from angry red planet but I'm unsure of what color it should be. On the MGM dvd it shows the creature in green. In the movie it's only shown with a solarized looking effect so there really isn't a color defined. I've seen model kits of the creature painted in oranges and browns but I'm not crazy about how that looks.
Is the MGM dvd cover an original piece of art for the film? Are there any photos of the actual puppet out there in color?

It would be a fun project to try to replicate that with some airbrushing and fading from one color to the next and drybrushing / washing with darker shades. Otherwise, I guess I would imagine it being black / dark gray if it didn't have that crazy effect on it. Or maybe various shades of burnt sienna, getting darker as you work away from the central body.
Or just the opposite:

You could look through images of real bats to see if any of the color schemes interest you. If not, try looking through pictures of other animals.
The film look is pretty crazy, I don't have any idea if I could replicate that with just my brushes and acrylics and make it look good.
looking through real bat pictures might be an idea
here's the kit
