I'm a history major at college and I'm just curious If anybody else on the board likes history. I'm mostly interested in military, ancient and political history. What about you guys/gals?
I love history, but its certainly not my job.
I don't know if I'm a buff of a certain area or period, but I do find certain ones particularly interesting:
Colonial and Revolutionary America
WWII
Ancient Civilizations (Rome, Egypt, Aztec/Mayan, Greek)
The Celts
Indo-Iranian/Indo-European
I find it interesting. Got somewhat of a background of world history in college, and maybe it was my total ignorance of geography that led me to learning about the various countries of the world, and of course their history goes along with that. Quite interested in WWII, ancient Egypt and the other kingdoms of that time period, Russian history, etc.
I enjoy history, especially Ancient Roman and early American History. I particularly take interest in dark parts of history. One of my favorite books is about evil men and women throughout history. I find it odd how one person can unfortunately cause so much pain and death for so many. I'm also interested in weaponry throughout the ages hence one of my fav current shows, The Deadliest Warrior. I actually just took a book out of the library today on weaponry.
I like reading up on ancient cultures, especially Greek, Middle Eastern and Egyptian, and the Roman Empire. It's kind of creepily fascinating to read how messed up the Roman emporers were. I'm also interested in Mideival Europe, especially England.
Nope, I'm doomed to repeat it.

Ha, you'd be amazed how true that saying really is.
Yup. I majored in archaeology. History is fascinating, the older the better!
My son is a history major. His area of interest has been the military and political history of Europe.
I got my Bachelor's and Master's in History, and teach it for a living. But, frankly, I majored in it because I love it so much! I love Presidential history, Roman History, the Tudor era in England, and military history from the two World Wars. I helped a neighbor of mine write his WWII POW memoir, and just love the whole vast panoply of man's remarkabe experiences on this earth. What amazes me is how history turns on such tiny hinges - a single set of orders, wrapped around a cigar and dropped by a careless soldier, may well have determined the outcome of the Civil War. Henry VIII's low sperm count determined what church George Washington would go through. So many cool, cool stories! :teddyr:
Yes I love history. I majored in History and English at University and did the equivalent of a Minor in Classics (Ancient Greek and Roman History) just because the courses interested me so much. I'm fascinated by War history (although I'm very anti-war), ancient civilizations such as the Sumerians, The Egyptians and the aforementioned Greeks and Romans and the history of modern civilization - the fascination of the path we're currently on the effects on what we've done in the past will have upon our planet. I'm also fascinated by the future. Stories about history though do fascinate me every bit as much if not more so because that's stuff that actually did happen...
I've read at least a few books on the English monarchy. Currently, I'm wading through a book on the American presidents. All of human history is fascinating to me. I often post news items of historical interest in the news releases section of this forum.
I deal in history everyday, whether it's the history of our film industry or the history of our country from way back. South Africa's history is not always a pleasant one but you look to your past to determine your future.
Studied Cinema Studies at University and also History. Some subjects: French and Russian Revolutions, Ancient History, Classics and Mythology, Holocaust and Genocide and a history of Terrorism subject [have forgot a couple but thats a good chunk of it.]
I'm broadly interested in history. Mostly enjoy the 1800's, any part of it. So much changed at the time and so much happened.
I find certain periods in history very interesting . . . I really enjoy stuff about the American West in the 1800s and early 1900s . . . lawmen and outlaws and all that stuff. I also enjoy reading about the prohibition era . . . and the depression . . . and all the criminals who were wreaking havoc around that time. I also find Europe in the Middle Ages to be interesting. I don't read nearly enough history books, but when I do read them I usually enjoy them.
Yes.
Past.
Present.
And, hopefully, into the future.
While I majored in English literature while in college, I did take enough history courses to get a minor in world history.
James Burke puts out some interesting books and videos on how history and science intersect. The Day the Universe Changed is a fantastic mini-series.
