I remember liking the song Body Rock ("get your body in the music") but I don't remember there being a movie called Body Rock that it was from. Well there was and it is not suprisingly a grade a cheeseball of a bad movie. What do you think a breakdancing drama/ quasi musical movie starring Lorenzo Lamas would be like? That's exactly what it is.
It takes place in New York but everyone looks like they are from LA. Lamas is Chilly D (I wonder how long it took them to come up with that one) He and his corny ass crew want to make it big doing ridiculous breakdancing laced "Stayin Alive" type dance numbers, wack graffiti murals, even worse rapping (by lamas) whatever they can do in the mean streets of whatever neighborhood they are supposed to be from it's impossible to tell (the middle of manhattan?). Can Chilly negotiate the perils of success while being true to himself and his best girl? Why am I writing about what lorenzo lamas is facing in a movie?
A funny moment is when Chilly is walking through Washington Square park and comes upon a performance of the NYC Breakers. You'd think he'd go back to his crew and be like "yo, we are dressing and dancing all wrong" but he doesn't. Despite it's extreme dorkiness and lack of authenticity you can't help but get up and dance!! haha not really but it does have a retardedly colorful sort of charm to it. Throw in a bit of random homophobia and soundtrack totally devoid of rap music and you got a thumbs up! Fred "Re-Run" Berry should have sued them for the dozens of interpolations of his signature dance they do.
4/5 It drags and is a drag in places and doesn't have the personality of the biggy bad movies like Troll 2 but it's "fun".
