Title: Constipation
Post by: Trevor on August 06, 2010, 01:14:03 PM
Not to gross anyone out but I've been on meds for the last week trying to get rid of flu and I am now very bunged up inside. I now realize what people meant when they said that "Trevor's full of sh*t."

Has anyone got a quick fix remedy for this?

Well, laxatives are a quick fix, but I'm not a big fan of them. One thing that has always worked for me is mineral oil and prune juice. Not exactly pleasant to drink, but it always gets me slipping and sliding, so to speak, and it's perfectly natural and safe. I had a doctor who was very into holistic alternatives turn me on to that one. Just mix some mineral oil into a glass of prune juice, and get it down your gullet. Like I said, it wont be pleasant, but it's always worked for me.

Eat three large navel oranges.  Guaranteed to get the mail moving again.

Oh joy!  A topic I can really speak to!

I've tried prunes/prune juice, and I think they work differently for different people.  I was encouraged to give them to my daughter when she was 6 months old for constipation, and she woke up in the middle of the night screaming.  I tried some prune juice after that to see what was up and they gave me extremely painful cramps, and yeah, I pooped, but it didn't change the consistency, so if you're trying to reduce your bricks to rubble, prunes may not help.  However, if you're going to try prunes/prune juice, heating it up is supposed to make it work faster.

A daily serving of yogurt ended up working for my daughter and it worked for me during pregnancy, but it may not work quickly for you.

Aside from what others have mentioned, I've also heard that papaya, coffee, and running will work quickly.  And of course, burritos can't hurt.

I find that drinking about 2 litres of water quickly can sometimes work(not all at once like over a 10-15 minute period). But I wouldn't reccomend it, unless your out of ideas. I don't think its harmful but Its probably not the healthiest of ideas.

Sit-ups on a full stomach (preferably liquids) blow me right out

Try all of the above at the same time.

I too have found yogurt good but yeah takes a bit to time. I find V8 fusion good in this fashion too. Also I've found the following have helped me in the past: peas, corn, beans, peanut butter, and well the most unlikely one which strangely seems to work for me - cheese. I think with most people though it has the opposite effect.

I once tried milk of magnesia.
It actually worked a little "too" well
