As an anime fan, if there is one thing that annoys me the most when it comes to releasing a show on DVD that I am pumped for, it is not releasing it at all or not caring about the product. Two companies that I have huge problems with are Sony and Viz Media. Viz Media is mixed bag here where they treat their shows right as long as they make enough money in their mind. Any show that does not meet whatever qualification they have, is dropped or the DVDs for the show stop coming. Monster is the worst offense recently where they released one DVD set back in December and after getting word on the rest of the DVDs that'll be released this year, there is no confirmation for DVD set 2. It's just like they gave up and it is one thing if they just stop dubbing the show because of this upset, but no. They continue with it! While dub the entire show if you are not going to release it onto DVD like everyone wants?!
However, the king of this problem is Sony where they just don't give a s**t about their license anime. Cyborg 009 only had one DVD released (Which I lovingly own) despite them dubbing the entire show back in 2003! Blood+ is even worse where they dubbed everything and then decided to released Part 1 (Episodes 1-25) at a price point of 100 bucks!? It's like they wanted the show to fail selling wise! Even worse is when they release Set 2 a year later at 120 bucks and the final episode not completely dubbed on DVD, even though the TV airing had it dubbed! Sony then announced that they won't fix this!? What... the... hell?!
Damn these companies suck with handling their products. However, when I think about it, I'm pretty sure other companies out there are just as bad or even worse when it comes to releasing and handling their movies on DVD and VHS. What companies have you run into that have problems like this? I can't think of a company for movies yet, but I'll let you know if I have one that comes to mind.
In Australia we have heaps of crappy DVD labels that don't have special features included with the DVD and I hate it. I like to help out my country by purchasing our R4 product but most of the time I prefer the R1 and R2 releases with extras. For example, our DVD of Deep Rising is barebones and 4:3, but the Dutch R2 is 2.35:1 and has a making of and interviews etc. It sucks.
