claws was commenting on a lack of Halloween spirit. I don't know if that's the case as I was quite new to the site last year, but here's a thread in response. What are you doing for Halloween? What costumes do you have going?
My wife and I are going to Jerome, Arizona. We went there last year. It's an old mining town on the side of a mountain that has a couple of very old and supposedly haunted hotels. A very eccentric and colorful community. Maynard of Tool is a resident of the town. My wife is going to be a sexy nurse and I'm going to be a head trauma patient. I've already picked up a rolling I.V. stand and she stole a hospital gown from when she was in the hospital for our youngest child. Just throw in a bandaged head and a plasma bag and I'm set. Now, if I want to be really ballsy I'll go commando under the hospital gown, but I'll probably chicken out and wear something. No, Trevor, I've got the underpants covered, thank you.
If we're able to, I'd like to get together with my friends and watch a few horror movies.
If my schedule (work and such) allows it, I'm dressing up as Klaus Nomi. I wish I could dress up while I'm at work!
I generally watch a movie or two and greet the few trick or treaters who come by.
Interesting that you should mention Jerome, AZ, Flick. I was there almost 20 years ago, probably in 1989, and I never met anyone else who's ever heard of the place. I don't recall any legends of hauntings and there was no Tool at the time. It was just a community of hippies (don't know if it's changed much, but with a minor celeb in town now it probably has). We stayed with one of them, the mother of a friend of a friend.
My experience among the hippies was so strange that I wrote a short story about it (my only published fiction). I changed the name of the town to "Augustine."
Oh yeah, I greet trick or treaters too!
Taking the kids out for candy exploitati...er...trick or treating. With three we really plan to mop up this year. My oldest is going as a shark, my middle is going as a hamburger and the baby is going to be a butterfly.

Definately still hippies there. Also a lot of bikers roll through. It's such a strange community.
Halloween falls around the start of the WRIR Fall Pledge Drive, so if I'm not volunteering for a phone shift, I'll be sneaking up there for some free food from our loving supporters.
Friday after next, I should be closing on a house, so hopefully (following some minor plumbing & electrical) I should be settled into my new place by then.
I work at Toys R Us. We usually get to dress-up for the holiday, so I'm thinking about putting together a mad scientist costume this year.
Halway through the day, I'm going to disappear and put on the Geoffry the Giraffe costume costume and I'm entertaining the kids that come by the store and giving them candy. Geoffry even has his own little pirate hat and eyepatch that he wears to dressup for Halloween.
After work, I'm going to a Haunted House a friend of mine sets up ever year.
See what you started, Flick. I visited Jerome, AZ, too, about 14 years ago. At the time a really good friend of mine had just recently moved to Phoenix and I went visit her. One of the places we visited was Jerome. It was a cool town and we had lunch there. I remember her telling me about some hotel there (can't recall the name) that was supposedly haunted. I remember we thought about staying there that night, but chickened out. We also went to Sedona.
Anyway, this Halloween we will be giving out candy to the trick or treaters and watching movies.
One of my sisters moved with her family into a new house a couple of miles away. Rural area, with a pretty big forest behind the house. A neighbor told my sister about an old graveyard near the woods and she went with her kids to take a look yesterday. She said the place is beautiful but also creepy, so I might be heading there on Halloween with my other sister, her daughter and her boyfriend to explore. Should be fun.
After that its movie time, food, and giving out candy to trick or treaters at my place.

There are two supposedly haunted hotels there, the Grand Hotel, and the Hotel Conor. The Grand is the big one at the top of the town, and the most famous:
The Hotel Connor is more in the center of town:
The Connor has a big saloon and is a popular stop for bikers passing through. Jerome has a fascinating history. Most of it burned down at one point, being replaced by alot of stone and brick buildings. It was a booming copper mining town in the late 1800's. Very unusual and eccentric citizenry.
Usually me and my girlfriend watch a bunch of Horror movies, most typically the original Halloween and Halloween II. I usually greet the trick or treaters and hand out candy too as well as make sure the pumpkin and spooky sounds are all set to go. This year I think I'm adding Halloween III to the viewing schedule. Last year I also watched the 1963 classic The Haunting and The Creeping Flesh.
Sitting at home in the dark so kids won't come over seeking candy so I can keep it all to myself.
Haunted Urban "Hayrides" - is one thing I enjoyed doing on Halloween a couple of years ago with my sister and her kids. We would take the car to visit 'spooky places' of our town. We would drive up to old abandoned buildings or houses usually located in the outskirts and made up creepy stories about the place. It was fun because the kiddies were easier to scare back then.
Maybe watch a movie or two with my wife, and have a few beers. The kids are too old for Halloween, we never get any trick-or-treaters, so that's about the extent of our plans. I'm sure I'll record a bunch of stuff off TCM and AMC as usual.
Dressing up and drinking out. My lady is going to be about 6 months in so not going out for too long.
I would like to go as the MST3K crew and make Servo and Crow robots, and don a red jumpsuit. Then go karaoke. But we'll see what I can come up with. If someplace like Spencer's was selling them I'd much rather do that than make them.
..or maybe go as the Whammy.
I don't know yet, but I'm thinking about going trick-or-treating at Jack's house.

I'm totally going to egg and toilet paper Paquita's house.

We always get plenty of candy, just in case you know :teddyr:
Usually we leave the house and go to the movies or out to dinner or something, then come back after the trick-or-treaters have all gone home. I know, I suck . . .
I'm hoping I can round up a couple of people to watch a movie or two. Either way, I'm planning on doing a pseudo-plague doctor costume (not going for accuracy; the most accurate kinds of coats you could get for that costume tend to be expensive and I just don't have a ton of skill with making clothes).
A friend of mine usually has some sort of Halloween party. Halloween's a Sunday this year, so it works out, cause the party's Saturday night after work, I'm off Halloween. So I'm sure I'll be drunk the night before, and usually on Halloween I wear whatever costume I take to the party, drink and watch the box sets of some horror flicks: Halloween, Friday the 13th, Saw, the Chucky flicks, etc.
Generally the whole month of October is set aside for horror flicks. Between all my dvd's and whatever pops up on tv, it's a good month.
Not sure, but if I can get off work, I think I'll participate in the Zombie Walk that's going on over in Carbondale that evening. :)
Woah! Just thought of maybe going as Mr. Gumby on Monty Python's Flying Circus! MY BRAIN HURTS!

Yup. And Christmas is a Saturday so I get a full weekend off this year, as my job is closed only 3 days a year: Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter. :teddyr:
I'm glad Halloween's on Sunday. I'm off. Gives me time to watch the games, etc.
Since it's on a weekend, I think I might go to a Rocky Horror screening. I've never been to one, although I did get to see a live performance. It'll be interesting to compare the two experiences (and decide which of the two I prefer).
I'll be waiting in the pumpkin patch this year again for the Great Pumpkin to rise.
"On Halloween night, the Great Pumpkin rises out of the pumpkin patch. The Great Pumpkin then flies through the air to deliver toys to all the good little children in the world." :twirl:

Got the front of the house decorated over the weekend. Here is my oldest hanging out with his grandmother...just kidding. :teddyr:

Might be listening to the Christmas music. Think it was last year that around 5 stations went All-Christmas, officially kicking off Halloween Day at 3. :buggedout:
Nothing like watching Jason Voorhees going on a massacre as Burl Ives is belting out "Holly Jolly Christmas" in the background. :bouncegiggle:
I might be able to get a gorilla suit. :tongueout:
The stores here were playing Christmas music on Halloween last year. Sheez!!!! Can't they at least wait until mid-November?
The week of Halloween...
Six Flags FrightFest! Nothing like being launched 140mph on KingdaKa at night.
On Halloween, I hope to watch some scary movies with my GF.
Don't know of any (Night of the Demons) Halloween parties yet, I wish.
I just bought the robe I'll need for my plague doctor costume (I'm an okay sculpter, but sewing machines and I don't agree for whatever reason. I could sew it by hand...if I had that kind of time). With that out of the way, I just need to make the mask (shouldn't be hard), get some leather shoes/boots, and find a poking stick. For added historical accuracy, I'm going to actually put some herbs in the beak of the mask. No matter how this all turns out, at least it'll smell really nice in there.
I just finished making a CD full of music that I feel captures a Halloween/Fun/Horror mood. I can't wait to play it on Halloween night!
20 songs total with a total running time of 79 minutes and 56 seconds.
Song-list in playing order:
1. Running Wild in the Streets - W.A.S.P.

18. Hall of the Mountain Grill - Hawkwind
19. I Love the Night - Blue Oyster Cult

I had a lot more music, but I'm putting it onto a 2nd CD for 2 reasons:
1. I'm waiting for 3 new CDs to arrive in the mail with some songs I'd like to add.
2. I ran out of room on the first CD.
I'd love to hear any thoughts. One thing I definitely feel is I have too much W.A.S.P. in the very beginning.
I did something like this once. I had some of the songs you listed, but also had:
Nature Trail to Hell In 3D by "Weird Al" Yankovic
Halloween and Die Die My Darling by The Misfits
I Put A Spell on You by Screamin Jay Hawkins
Stagger Lee and Red Right Hand by Nick Cave
Rock Lobster by The B-52s

Now that I'm an uncle my Halloweens have regained a kid component. THis year I'm dressing up as DJ Lance from Yo Gabba Gabba.
Not much really, I'm going to get a William Shatner mask, take a kitchen knife, steal a doctor's car and head for a place called Haddonfield.

Watch out for those psychiatrists. They can really put a cramp in your style.
I've decided I'll go as Beavis and get my costume either today or tomorrow.
I'll spend Sunday night at home watching slasher flicks and doling out candy. I'll probably get a few kids for once, since I now live at a house and not an apartment where I almost never got kids.
