I had my first root beer at the festival I attended last month. I really, really wanted to like it but the mixture I bought tasted like spillage from my undies mixed with cough syrup and a dash of laxative. Not nice at all - I hope it was just that particular brand and not root beer in general.
www.frankiessoftdrinks.co.za (http://www.frankiessoftdrinks.co.za) is the company that made this stuff and where the hell did they get permission to use stuff from my undies? :buggedout: :buggedout:
I've never tried that brand.
Well, then you're probably turned off to the stuff. I'm quite fond of root beer myself.
What types of soda are you accustomed to?
Funny, I thought it was the Frankies in Michigan, where I grew up, but it's actually a different Frankies. Man there's a crapload of different root beer companies.

It sounds like that Frankies is an exceptionally strong type. You might like one of the less strong varieties better. But, I've heard other people who don't like root beer in general compare the flavor to cough syrup - so it might be you won't like any of 'em. Too bad, if that's the case. :tongueout:

Mostly stuff like Pepsi, Coke etc but that RB was really nasty.
I'm hoping it's just a bad brand because I've never known Root Beer to be anything but heavenly.
I'd like to suspect that root beer in New Zealand is different. We'll have to try and get yiou some US varieties.

Trevor lives in South Africa. Was the film festival in New Zealand?
Either way, we now have to find some good root beer for Trevor!

We don't really know that what Trevor had wasn't good root beer. He's the only one on the board to drink that brand, and he has nothing to compare it to.
root beer floats are great, but I'm not much of a fan of just plain root beer
Don't fret Trevor! I used to hate Root Beer, and I don't love it now, but it grew on me! Every once in a while I'll think "Well hot dog! I want me a root beer!"... I just have to get in the mood for it. Sometimes I'll take a sip of what I think is my husband's cola, and then realize its root beer or dr pepper, and when I'm not prepared for that, it's quite an unpleasant shock, like I just drank fermented toilet water or something.
I myself am an A&W man myself. And, if any of you have found yourself in the Delaware Water Gap area of PA and NJ, stop in at Johnny's Hotdogs.

Johnny is a regional legend...he started his busines out of a small shack he built after he came home from WW2. His business grew and grew and he became a small millionaire. He passed away some time ago, but his business is still slam bang!
HIS root beer and birch beers are the best...and unlike a lot of places today, Johnny's serves the root beer in frosted mugs. From the hotdogs to the root beer, you guys will love it, I promise ya'!
okay, I gots a crate of Barq's, Mug, A&W, IBC. where to sir?! :teddyr:

No Hires?
How does one go about sending soft drinks halfway around the world anyway? I can just imagine a case of root beer bursting in the hold of a jet when the pressure drops, and Trevor opening a package of sticky, soggy cardboard. It'd have to go by ship, I suppose.
Or Trevor could find a specialty grocery store in Pretoria that carries imported pop.
I treid to find hima local seller or Henry Weinhard's Root beer to no avail.
