Just curious -- what's the highest rated movie on IMDB's top 250 that you've never seen? (Link to the list: http://www.imdb.com/chart/top).
For me, it's #19, CITY OF GOD. I'm sure its a great movie and I'd watch it if the opportunity came up, but I'm not going to seek it out.
(You may want to skip over the 2010 releases---I understand many/most of you haven't had the chance to see INCEPTION or TOY STORY 3 yet. Besides, those movies are likely to sink further down the list as time goes on).
#17, TOY STORY 3
#43 - Vertigo. I've actually been meaning to get around to Vertigo for quite a while, I even checked it out of the library once and never got around to it before it had to go back.
#47, Amelie. After reading about it I know its not my type of movie and I will never watch it. Chick flicks suck. :teddyr:
The Godfather parts 1&2
#1 The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
I rented the video once but only managed to see bits and pieces. For some reason the DVD always flew under my radar. I'm now aiming to get the Blu-ray one of these days.
#1 - The Shawshank Redemption.
7 - Shindler's List
# 2 - The Godfather
I counted them up and I've seen 100 of the 250 although I own I'd say at least 25 on DVD I have yet to watch.
13. Seven Samuri
#8. Twelve Angry Men
#3 The Godfather: Part II
I have not seen 96 of the top 250. Better than half of those just do not appeal to me, so I am unlikely to chose to see them - Godfather II included.
The highest rated I've never seen is Seven Samarai. I don't know why I've not seen it. And it's on Netflix for streaming. Sweet.
#25...The Usual Suspects
2. The Godfather
3. THE GODFATHER, Part II
I've seen bits and pieces, just never the whole thing.
The highest ranked one I've seen none of:

Ignoring "Inception," then I'm in the same boat as you. "City of God."

13. Seven Samuri
These are both incredible films, and I'd recommend them to anyone. "Twelve Angry Men" and "Rashomon" make for a great combination if you watch them the same night, and both will really get you to thinking. I last watched "Rashomon" about five months ago, and sometimes I still turn the film and its ideas over in my head.

The newly restored Criterion version of "Seven Samurai" is due out this month. I will say that men seem to like it more than women, but "Seven Samurai" is an amazing movie.

I'm not a fan of chick flicks, but I like "Amelie" a lot. It's a very creative film, and a lot of fun. You'll never look at a lawn gnome the same way again.

Hehe. Well, that's just it. My wife is not terribly keen on Asian cinema in general, but especially something more testosteronic (new word?) like
Seven Samurai.
I agree about
Twelve Angry Men. It's right it should be rated so high, and sometimes overlooked as the virtually perfect film that it is in terms of performance, execution, editing, you name it. The claustrophobic feel of the film is fantastic, almost a
No Exit quality to it.
2. The Godfather.
I've seen 155 of the movies on the list. So let me get this straight: Sin City is better than Heat, Fargo and Blade Runner; Avatar is better than The Exorcist, District 9, The Thing, The Terminator, Night of the Hunter, The Graduate, Big Lebowski and In Bruges; and Crash (not the Cronenberg one) is better than Toy Story 2, Patton, and Anatomy of a Murder. Yeah, OK............
Seemingly, like a number of people, it'd be #1. "Shawshank Redemption."
Going a bit further, I've seen 103 or 41.2% of the 250 movies listed. Of those 103 films, I liked 74% and disliked 26%. That normally would be good ratio of like to dislike, but with these films supposedly being the best films ever made, the ratio might not be that good.
cool idea for a thread. If I dont count Toy Story 3 then it would be #47 Spirited Away (2001)
12 Angry Men (1957), Schindler's List (1993) and they are closely followed by Inception (2010)
#3 The Godfather part 2
I've not seen 99 of them.
I'm disappointed that KING KONG (1933) didn't make the list.

Got me thinking. How many haven't I seen 29 not to shabby. agree King Kong should make the list.

The Lives of Others (2006)
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
Metropolis (1927)
Downfall (2004)

Howl's Moving Castle (2004)
Infernal Affairs (2002)
Festen (1998)
Roman Holiday (1953)
A Separation (2011)
#20 Once Upon A Time in the West (1968)
I have never seen the Godfather, both parts.
Inception
I've seen the top 6, and 62 other movies from the list (I did one of those facebook questions, I saw 68 in total).
As an update, I have not seen 65 of the top 250. Mostly the older ones, pre 1980.

CITY OF GOD is powerful cinema. Not for the lily-livered or weak-kneed, but worthwhile.
I don't go to new movies much. I can't remember the last "new" movie I looked at. I haven't seen those 2010 releases, though I'd definitely sit through both
INCEPTION and
TOY STORY 3.
Also Top 60 not seen:
31.
MEMENTO (sounds cool)
47.
SPIRITED AWAY (I've seen parts of this)
55.
THE LIVES OF OTHERS 57.
THE DEPARTED (I know, I know. I mean I
KNOW. And I love MARTIN SCORSESE's films.)
The list is long. I may come back.
6. 12 Angry Men
#49 City Lights (1931)
A week ago it would have been North by Northwest and Vertigo, but I just watched both of those. Not a terrible list, but it's certainly skewed towards young male internet-users.
I haven't seen #113 and have no desire to.
The only superhero film I ever liked was the '89 Batman, and that was only because I love Jack Nicholson.
I've never seen "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly," which currently ranks at #4. I dunno, why, I guess Westerns aren't really my thang.

I can't imagine anyone disliking The Good, The Bad and the Ugly, even if you don't like westerns. It's just that good.

Don't think of it as a Western, just think of it as an adventure story. It's set during the Civil War and a lot of the trappings of a conventional Western are missing (there are no Indians or saloon scenes). I think TGTB&TU may be the ultimate "guy" movie.
