This is one of 3 DVDs (along with NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD and HALLOWEEN) I watched last night to celebrate Halloween weekend.
The plot: A guy dressed in a monk's robe and skull mask uses scuba gear to swim through the canals in Venice and kidnap women. He brings them to his hidden monastery/lab (in true "cheap set" fashion, most of the time you see only one corner of the room consisting of a brick wall and a table for the victims to lie on) where he embalms them to preserve their beauty.
This is an Italian film and the English dubbing is terrible/hilarious (lots of awkward dialogue and uncomfortable pauses in the middle of sentences where they needed to get the voices to sych with the mouth movements). The most ridiculous scene takes place in a nightclub where an Elvis Presley-type singer sings a dumb song in a really ludicrous voice.
You can find this movie in Mill Creek's NIGHT SCREAMS 50 Movie Pack.

I've heard of this movie but never got to see it. I do however remember a death metal song called "The Enbalmer" from the early 90's, but the name of the group escapes me.

Maybe it's the song Embalmed by Autopsy from the album Severed Survival (1989)...
The "fathomless" canals? Does he mean you can't fathom them, or that they're not very deep? :bouncegiggle:

Could be.
BTW, wasn't Autopsy the band that had that one album cover with all the zombies on the front? The album was called
The Darkest Day Of Horror if I remember right. That was one kickass cover.
