Title: They Simply Disappeared From The Sequels
Post by: Mr. DS on October 31, 2010, 11:15:03 AM
An offshoot of the the "Same role, different actor" thread.  What movies can you think of where a main character has died or simply disappeared from film series in between sequels.  For example, Captain Panaka was in The Phantom Menace but simply disappeared from the other Star Wars prequels.  I heard the actor was asking for a ridiculous sum so they wrote him out.

Your turn...

Vikki Vale wasnt in Batman Returns (I think she dumped him).
Hicks and Newt die in the crash pod in Alien3.

Hammer-Frankenstein's assistants disappear between each movie with no explanation.  (It's even aruguable whether or not it's even the same Frankenstein every time.)

Tank disappeared from the Matrix sequels.

I gather the actor was a huge jerk on set, and so they wrote him out.  They namecheck him to tell us he died inbetween films at least.

Since I just saw it, I thought it worth mentioning that the surviving werewolf alpha female from The Howling is completely ignored in the sequel.  Very lame.

The Howling 2 sucked, they couldn't even use footage from the 1st one!

The Fast to the Furious to 2Fast 2 Furious.

Tareto (I think that is how it is spelt).  I like how Vin Diesel makes an appearance in the third installment.

I have more.

Later,

John

A bunch of characters from the Saw films could count, either disappeared or relegated to insignificant cameos.

Anybody in a Mad Max movie other than Max.

Though Bruce Spence is in both Road Warrior and Beyond Thunderdome, he plays a different character in each; which seems like really strange casting.

How about richard dreyfus in jaws 2? I think they mentioned him briefly as being unavailable.

Nurse/Dr. chapel in every star trek movie after STTMP?

While not a sequel situation, the boxey character simply disappeared from battlestar galactica after a few appearances.

Nightcrawler in the X-Men franchise.  He was prominent in X2 and then in X3 he's not there and they don't even mention him.  Always bugged me.

The love interest from Night in the Museum.  Where did she go?  I was quite confused when I watched the sequel.

Anything related to Arthur and himself is not brought up in Shrek 4.  Not that it is a problem mind you, since they would have to crowbar him in, so I have no real problem with that.

Also, whatever happened to Velma and Shaggy's love interests from the first live action movie?  They just frankly vanished and are never mentioned in the second film.

There was a movie tie-in game where you could play him.  In it, he decided he didn't want to fight anymore and left the team.

Police Academy movies seemed to drop characters here and there without explanation.

They just wanted to appeal to the kiddies.

"Short Round" The little smart ass Asian kid from Indiana Jones and the temple of Doom. Though I WAS glad he never showed up again. He  just faded away like one of Indies love interests.

Casey Jones was in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.  Disappeared for Part 2.  Re-appeared in Part 3.  Kinda wish he was in Part 2.  And no mention was made, either.

Home Alone 4- So, they made 1&2.  Part 3 was completely unrelated to them.  Then, for Part 4, they decided to have the same family portrayed in 1&2, but with new actors as Macaulay Culkin was a grown man.  So, in doing this sequel with the McAllister clan, pretty much his ENTIRE family no longer exists except for his parents, and older brother Buzz.  And, Marv shows up to rob him again, only for some reason, no Harry.  I don't even think they mentioned WHY he wasn't there.
