Big news because it was thought they could never get the rights to these from the Japanese (not Sandy Frank). They're going to issue a 5 volume set containing all the Gamera films.
They're also releasing single discs of two out of print titles: BEGINNING OF THE END and INCREDIBLY STRANGE CREATURES...
Good times.
I'm happy to hear this. I have several Gamera flicks as is in a box set, been longing for the MST3K versions.
In fact, I can't find any of the MST3K dvd's around here, and they can't ALL be sold out due to the holiday. :buggedout:
I believe that Shout! Factory also released the original [/b]Gammera The Invincible[/b] with subtitles and some sort of commentary by August Ragone, some authority on daikaiju eiga (Japanese monster films) and the author of Eiji Tsuburaya, Master Of Monsters.
Either that, or the DVD has both the original film and the MST3K cut. Not sure of which?

Yes, S!F also recently re-released the Gamera series. That's separate from the MST3K versions. The MST3K Gamera set won't be released until 2011, but I couldn't wait to break the news.

Gamera is really sweet!
He is filled with turtle meat!
I wonder if this means we'll be seeing some of the Godzilla films from before appearing on a box set sooner or later.

I wouldn't bet on it. Godzilla is owned by Toho, a different kettle of fish altogether. Still, hope springs eternal!
